  • The vacant WBC International featherweight title is up for grabs in Ireland

  • Michael Conlan brings a 19-3-0 record

  • Jack Bateson has lost only one of 22 previous bouts

September is here as fight fans worldwide prepare for a huge month packed with exciting bouts. We have the eagerly anticipated Saul Alvarez vs Terence Crawford fast approaching, with Chris Eubank Jnr - Conor Benn II also included in the running. Before those glamour ties, we’re in Dublin, Ireland, for a mouth-watering showdown for the WBC International title at featherweight. Michael Conlan faces Jack Bateson in an Ireland vs UK clash that could provide the division’s next world title challenger.

American boxing fans will remember Conlan from his time in the States, where he impressed in the early part of his career with eye-catching wins at Madison Square Garden in New York, the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, the Convention Centre in Tucson, and the Park Theatre in Las Vegas. Will he use that experience to claim an important win on Friday that would fire him up the rankings towards the big names, including Nick Ball, Rafael Espinoza, and Stephen Fulton?

Michael Conlan vs. Jack Bateson 2025 09 05

The oddsmakers are firmly in support of Conlan, pricing the Irishman as if winning is almost guaranteed. His form and standing in the sport make that a fair assumption, but taking Friday’s challenge lightly would be a huge mistake. As a boxing bettor, you can follow the market and back the favourite for a sizeable stake or go against the grain and trust the underdog. The results of major boxing cards worldwide are littered with shocking upsets and big price changes. Are we about to witness another, with Bateson taking the title back to Leeds, England? Click any link on this page to make your Conlan vs Bateson bets.

The fight winner market is the simplest way to bet on championship boxing. Simply choose which fighter you expect to be victorious, set your stake, and confirm the wager. If your pick wins, you get the profits. If the opponent wins or the bout ends in a draw, you lose, and the betting app keeps your stake. Here’s an example.

With the above bet, it doesn’t matter how Bateson wins, as long as he gets the result. Victory by first-round knockout is the same as a narrow win on the scorecards. If you back the Englishman and he leaves with the belt, the above bet pays $130. That’s an $80 profit and your $50 stake back. But if Bateson fails to win, you lose your $50 stake.

You can play the fight-winner market and back either man as a single or add the pick to your weekend parlays, shooting for a large profit off a small stake.

Conlan Form and Figures

Michael Conlan brings a professional boxing record of 19 wins against three defeats, settling him at number 68 in the world rankings. Much better was expected of the man from Belfast, Northern Ireland, by this stage of his career, although it’s widely believed there’s more to come. The 33-year-old suffered his first defeat in 2022 when he was stopped in the final stage of a 12-round war with Leigh Wood.

Conlan suffered a second defeat shortly after, when he was knocked out inside five rounds by Luis Alberto Lopez in Belfast while challenging for the IBF featherweight world title in 2023. A third loss came in his next outing, with Jordan Gill forcing a seventh-round TKO. That means the home fighter was stopped in each of his three defeats, which does little to inspire confidence. Has he learned the harsh lessons of those defeats? Will Conlan ever become world champion? Many question marks remain over ‘Irish Mick Conlan’, but he does arrive fresh from an eight-round points win last time.

Bateson Gorm and Figures

England’s Jack Bateson may jet to Ireland as the underdog and a man expected to suffer a heavy defeat on Friday fight night, but there’s much to like about the Yorkshireman. He has won 20 and drawn one of his previous 22 bouts, claiming six knockouts during that run. The spare defeat on his record came against Shabaz Masoud in Sheffield late in 2022 when fighting a 12-round contest. Bateson was beaten in the final round after being dropped to the canvas twice in quick succession.

Since that painful reverse, Jack has steadied the ship, winning each of his next three starts, including two stoppage wins. He was last seen in action when fighting out a disappointing technical draw with Danny Quartermaine in Sheffield. The European super featherweight title was on the line that evening, but an accidental head clash in round two forced a premature end. If a fight is cut short due to an accidental foul so early in the contest, it’s called a draw. That happened in December, and fight fans must predict if the damage suffered would’ve healed in the eight months since. At his best, Bateson is certainly a danger.

Conlan vs. Bateson Predictions

Friday’s main event is another example of great match-making, but I don’t believe Conlan’s management team have brought Bateson over to beat their boy. Yes, he’ll provide a serious workout for the local and play a part in an exciting contest, but I’m picking Conlan to feed off the crowd and score a points win. He’ll be busier, more active and can target the cut that cost Bateson the chance to become European champion at super featherweight.
