Oscar Collazo vs Jayson Vayson 2025 09 20

Collazo is the current keeper of the belt and boasts a perfect 12-fight winning record. Vayson is the challenger hoping to leave Indio with the title. The stats suggest we’re in for a competitive contest that could go the distance and test the scoring judges sat at ringside. But the oddsmakers don’t view it that way.

As you can see from the odds table above, the betting strongly favors the champion, pricing Collazo as if losing isn’t an option. It’s easy to see why they’ve taken that stance, but it’s a dangerous approach. Upsets are common in boxing at all weights, and the direction of a contest can change with a single punch.

The current fight winner betting gives you an option: place a big stake on Collazo, hoping to land a small return or bet a smaller amount on the underdog with the aim of winning big. The fight-winner market is the simplest way to gamble on this decider, giving you a one-in-three chance of making a profit. Bet on your chosen fighter, and you’ll have the opponent and the draw working against you. Some sportsbooks offer a draw no bet option.

Here’s an example of how to place a fight winner bet on Saturday’s clash.

  • $10 on Vayson to win @ +800 (bet365)

With the above bet, you’re gambling on the bigger price for a $10 stake. It doesn’t matter how they get the win, as long as Jayson is victorious at the end, you’ll land the profits. A $10 bet at the current odds pays $90. That’s an $80 profit and your $10 stake back. But if Collazo wins or it’s a draw, your bet loses, and the bookmaker keeps your stake.

You can bet on the fight-winner market as a single or add it to other predictions from the undercard, creating a parlay. Multiple bets, like a parlay, offer an entire evening of betting off one stake, and if every leg wins, you’ll be counting the returns.

Collazo Form and Figures

WBO minimumweight world champion Oscar Callazo turned professional back in 2020 with a third-round stoppage win, giving fans a taste of what was to come. By 2023, he was a recognised world champion after beating Melvin Jerusalem in round seven.

Callazo proved a cut above his opponent, forcing referee Ray Corona to end the bout, saving the beaten man from further punishment. It was a statement win and performance from Oscar, but he was only just getting started.

The 28-year-old from Puerto Rico continued to sail through the ranks thanks to an extended winning run. The 5’ 2” southpaw boxer is currently ranked number one in the world at the weight, one place higher than his former opponent, Jerusalem, who will have a close watch on the outcome here.

El Pupilo’s 12-0-0 record includes nine stoppage wins, resulting in a 75% knockout average. It’s worth knowing that the champion has beaten his previous two opponents before the end of round seven.

Vayson Form and Figures

Jayson Vayson will prove little more than a decent test on the night, before becoming another stat on his rival’s already glittering CV. That’s if the predictions of bookmakers prove correct.

Can the 27-year-old Filipino turn the tables, take the title, and upset the party in front of his opponent’s adoring fans? That’s certainly the aim, and the man known as “Striker” seems to have a better chance than the odds suggest.

Vayson is ranked 14th in the world, making it strange to see him challenge the champion. Boxing is unique in that it can turn a fighter's fortunes overnight. Win in Indio and he’ll shoot up the pecking order, opening a big-paying rematch or a unification bout with one of the division’s other champions.

Jayson’s record shows he’s won 14, lost one fight, and drawn one. The spare defeat came in Seigo Yuri Akui in Japan. Since losing on points, Vayson has fought four and won four; three inside the distance. That power looks to be his best chance of winning.

Collazo vs. Vayson Predictions

It may lack a little adventure, but I believe the betting traders have called this one correctly when making it a case of how the champion defends, rather than if.

Collazo’s winning streak is nothing short of spectacular, but Vayson will give him a workout, and I expect this one to go the distance. The challenger has only lost on the scorecards, nudging us towards a bet on Collazo to win on points.
