Team Notes

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have posted a record of 29-27 this season over their first 56 games, 7.5 games back of the Yankees in the AL East.

Boston has dropped to a 32.4% chance to make the playoffs and a 1.0% probability to take the World Series crown according to Baseball Reference.

The Red Sox stand at 6-1 to win the American League and 8-1 to capture back-to-back World Series crowns.

New York Yankees

The Yankees continue to plow through baseball with a 36-19 overall record and a one-game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL East.

New York has the best odds in the AL East to enter the playoffs at 87.7% and a 3.4% shot to be victorious in the 2019 World Series.

The Yankees are 3-1 to win the American League and 6-1 to take the World Series title in 2019.

Pitcher Notes

Red Sox: Rick Porcello (4-4, 4.41 ERA)

Porcello has been terrific over the past month posting a 3.34 ERA while surrendering 27 hits in 32.1 innings.

In his last start against Cleveland on May 27th, Porcello battled over 6.2 innings allowing three earned runs, while striking out four.

  • Porcello’s K rate is problematic long-term, with just 51 strikeouts in 63.1 innings this season.
  • The Boston starter has allowed 85 baserunners in his 63.1 innings in 2019.
  • Porcello is allowing opposing hitters to bat .254 against him, with a lackluster 10 homers allowed.

New York Yankees: C.C. Sabathia (3-1, 3.48 ERA)

Sabathia’s last start against Baltimore was poor as the lefty allowed four runs, behind two homers, in just five innings.

The lefty is working through a slight knee injury and that could prevent him from following through on his pitches. Don’t be surprised if manager Aaron Boone pulls Sabathia early.

  • This is Sabathia’s first start since May 22nd, a rough outing against Baltimore.
  • Sabathia gave up 10 earned runs in May, after allowing just six in April.
  • At home, Sabathia has allowed a batting average of just .195.
