NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Jayson Tatum, Will Riley & More Picks for Sunday, April 5

As the week comes to a close and the playoffs beckon, I picked five of my favorite NBA player props for the day.

Nikola Jokic (40 points, 13 assists, eight rebounds) and the Denver Nuggets outdueled Victor Wembanyama (34 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists) and the San Antonio Spurs in an overtime classic last night, while rookie Will Riley scored a career-best 31 points for the Washington Wizards in their loss to the Miami Heat.

There are 11 games today, beginning with the Toronto Raptors visiting the Boston Celtics at 3:30 p.m. ET. The night will close out with the Golden State Warriors hosting the Houston Rockets at 10:00 p.m.

Here are my top NBA player prop picks and bets for Sunday, April 5.

NBA Player Props and Best Bets April 5

Will Riley over 16.5 points (-112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Riley didn’t just score 31 points on 70.6 percent shooting yesterday; he went over this line in five of his last six games, scoring at least 20 in three of those. He is now preparing to face the Brooklyn Nets, who let him score 27 points on 52.6 percent shooting when they last met on Feb. 7.

The Nets ranked eighth in the middle of the league at 15th in points allowed per game over the last few weeks, although that has more to do with their slow pace of play than excellent offense. Riley is confident and getting his opportunities, and the Nets shouldn’t put up a huge fight.

Jayson Tatum under 5.5 assists (-154) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Tatum, strangely, has looked much better on the glass and as a facilitator than he did at any point before he tore his Achilles. He went over this line in four of his last five contests and even had 11 assists against the Miami Heat just a few days ago.

While Tatum is on a hot streak as a passer, he still only averaged 5.1 assists for the season, while the Raptors allowed the second-fewest assists per game in the entire NBA. I expect him to revert back to chucking contested shots, or simply just not having the ball in his hands, while Jaylen Brown goes to work against one of the Eastern Conference’s playoff teams.

Isaiah Joe over 8.5 points (-112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Here’s my logic with this one: the Oklahoma City Thunder are 22.5-point favorites (yes, you read that correctly) over the Utah Jazz today. That means that this game will almost inevitably end in a blowout, which should leave more minutes for the bench players to get on the court.

Joe is fresh off of making six threes and scoring 20 points in only 13 minutes in his last game, a monstrous victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. He split the over/under in previous matchups with the Jazz, but he went over in five of his last eight and should get to take at least a few shots today.

Coby White under 14.5 points (-112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

White went over this line in five of his last seven games, but he also hasn’t been able to play all that many minutes. He was capped at 23 or fewer in his last 10 outings, which means that if his shot isn’t falling, it will be tough for him to get to the over because of the missing volume of opportunities.

The Minnesota Timberwolves ranked 11th in points allowed per game and have willing defenders on the perimeter who will stick to White. LaMelo Ball has also played very well as of late, which could also contribute to White seeing fewer opportunities in what I expect will be a lower-scoring day for him.

Rui Hachimura over 14.5 points (-128) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Hachimura is a former starter for the Lakers and knows what it’s like to play lots of minutes alongside LeBron James. The injury losses of both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have opened up a ton of minutes for other players, and Hachimura will be one of those players who sees a large increase in usage.

The 28-year-old went under this line in nine straight games, but it’s also unfair to look to the past, since he was playing a little over 20 minutes per night in recent weeks. The Dallas Mavericks allowed the fifth-most points per contest over their last 15 outings, and this is an easier way to start Hachimura’s new stint as a starter.
