Who Will Win the Stanley Cup? Colorado Cause a Prediction Market Avalanche

The prize for hockey’s hottest competition is glinting on the horizon, and the prediction markets are currently tipping Colorado Avalanche to lift the 2026 Stanley Cup.

Under the watch of coach Jared Bednar, Colorado’s finest are leading the way with 22% of the picking public backing them for the win. However, despite an avalanche of momentum for Colorado, the result is far from certain.

Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Stanley Cup prediction markets ahead of the June finale.

Key Takeaways Stanley Cup 2026

  • Colorado Avalanche dominate the Stanley Cup prediction markets. Colorado moved ahead in the prediction markets back in September 2025 and remain the favorite today.

  • Tampa Bay Lightning has the talent to win. Stanley Cup veterans Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point could give Tampa the edge if they can recapture their previous form and avoid injuries.

  • The Stanley Cup prediction markets are close. Colorado might be out in front, but the probabilities among the top five are close, which is why any team, including sleeper picks like the Buffalo Sabres, could win.

NHL Stanley Cup Prediction Market Analysis

The top prediction markets, including Kalshi, currently have Colorado Avalanche as the comfortable frontrunner for the 2026 Stanley Cup. But with the playoffs set to start in April, it’s a long road to the final, which is why it’s impossible to write any team in the top five.

Colorado Avalanche to Win | Yes: 22% at $0.22

Some of Colorado’s current momentum in the prediction markets is due to the demise of others. Both Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes have slipped in recent weeks, giving Colorado a chance to extend their lead at the top of the picking charts.

That, of course, is only part of the story. Predictions don’t equal positive results, which is something Colorado Avalanche has struggled with lately. Although far from dismal, coach Bednar’s men have lost three of their last four.

This run takes their current record to 44 (wins) and 13 (losses) in the Western Conference. The good news is that the slide doesn’t define Colorado’s season. Before losing to the Edmonton Oilers on March 3, Colorado put together a five-game streak that included a win over another Stanley Cup top pick, the Dallas Stars.

Leading the charge going into the playoffs are Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichushkin. MacKinnon is the NHL’s top goal scorer right now, and Nichushkin, while volatile, has the power and speed to cause any team problems.

The pairing has helped give Avalanche the best offensive record in the NHL so far this season with 3.75 goals per game. This is coupled with an equally impressive defensive record of just 2.43 goals against per game. Standing strong at the back is Cale Makar, whom many regard as the best defensive player in the world right now.

This mix of attacking prowess and defensive might creates a balanced team that has what it takes to win the Stanley Cup.

Other Teams to Watch:

Tampa Bay | Yes: 14% at $0.14

Tampa Bay Lightning could cause a storm in the latest Stanley Cup predictions markets if key players can make it for one last hurrah. Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point were instrumental in Tampa’s 2020 and 2021 Stanley Cup wins.

Although older, they remain a threat. Point scored vital goals during both cup runs, and many credit Kucherov for being the star who helped Tampa win back-to-back titles. Their impact, of course, is dependent on fitness. However, if other standouts like Brandon Hagel and Jake Guentzel can hit their stride, Lightning will be tough to beat.

Place your prediction on Tampa Bay

Carolina | Yes: 13% at $0.13

If defense is the foundation of a winning Stanley Cup run, the Carolina Hurricanes have as much chance at any top pick. The prediction markets currently have coach Rod Brind'Amour’s team trading places with Tampa Bay.

Interest in the Hurricanes comes mainly from the team’s defensive record. According to NHL Edge, Carolina players spend just 36.3% of the game in their defensive zone. That’s better than any other team, and more than 3% better than the NHL average (41.1%). The Hurricanes' shot differential (shots made vs. shots against) is also low at +0.2, which suggests they’ll be hard to break down in tight games.

Stanley Cup Prediction Market Sleeper

Hockey prediction markets have their top three, but any picker knows the best value often lies outside the favorites. Could this season’s sleeper pick upset the latest Stanley Cup probabilities?

Buffalo Sabres | 7%

Many are tipping the Dallas Stars as the best outsider ahead of this year’s Stanley Cup race, but the prediction markets are quietly getting behind the Buffalo Sabres. The team’s probabilities on Kalshi remained relatively flat until February, when they suddenly spiked.

The “Yes” market jumped from 1% to 3% within 10 days at the end of January. It spiked again in late February, touching 12% before settling at 7%. The movements coincide with five-game and eight-game win streaks.

The sharpest tools in Buffalo’s arsenal are Tage Thompson and Owen Power. Although inexperienced, they have the exuberance of youth. Given the chance, their creativity and lack of fear could propel the Sabres to a shock victory.

Why the Stanley Cup Prediction Market is Moving

There haven’t been many notable swings in the Stanley Cup prediction market in recent weeks. Looking at the probabilities on Kalshi, Tampa Bay were out in front back in September, but it took a matter of days for Colorado to take the lead.

Interestingly, both teams have remained the front-runners throughout the season, with their Yes probabilities rising in unison, which means the gap between the two in terms of market interest has remained even.

How Hockey Prediction Markets Work

Prediction platforms offer peer-to-peer trading, which means you’re taking one side of a proposition and someone else is taking the other. The house (aka bookmaker) has no involvement.

That’s why Kalshi isn’t a bookmaker. In trading terms, it’s a market maker. Kalshi, OG, and other hockey prediction markets set the Yes/No proposition and move out of the way. This allows you to trade picks with other hockey fans.

For the Stanley Cup, the proposition is simple: Will X team win? Yes or No. You can take either side, and the platform will match someone willing to take the other. That’s why the percentages aren’t exactly 100%.

For example, when it comes to the Stanley Cup prediction markets, the numbers on Kalshi are:

  • Yes = 22% ($0.22)

  • No = 79% ($0.79)

These numbers mean 22% of pickers are taking the Yes, and 79% are taking no. That’s not quite right, though, because 22% + 79% = 101%. The extra 1% is the spread, which is basically Kalshi’s fee for providing a service.

So, what you can do is reduce the probabilities slightly to account for this. For example, 22% is more like 21.5% of the market taking the Yes. This doesn’t really make much difference to the market’s overall landscape, which is why we list the probabilities.

NHL Prediction Markets vs. Traditional Sportsbooks

Traditional sportsbooks offer odds on the Stanley Cup and other NHL events, including the regular season and playoffs. Bookmakers set the odds, and you can either take them or not.

Taking them requires you to make a bet for which you’ll receive a return if your pick wins. For example, if a sportsbook sets the line on Colorado Avalanche at -150, it means you’ll win $100 for every $150 wagered. In traditional sports betting, you can only take one side of the bet because the bookmaker has the other.

In prediction markets, you’ve got the choice. If you don’t think Colorado Avalanche will win, you can take the No side of a trade. In this regard, prediction markets offer more flexibility when it comes to NHL games and events, including the Stanley Cup. For more options, check out our prediction market events.

Where to Trade NHL Stanley Cup Markets Legally

You now know what the Stanley Cup prediction markets are saying and who the front-runners are. The question now is where you can make your picks. The top prediction markets offering legal picks for US hockey fans are Kalshi, OG, and Crypto.com.

Of those platforms, Kalshi is available in all states. Crypto.com is available in all states except New York, and OG is open to sports fans in 48 states (restricted in NY and AZ). Kalshi currently leads the way in terms of market coverage and liquidity. It also has social features, such as chat boards, which are great for newbies looking for tips and advice from experienced pickers.

These features are the result of Kalshi’s focus on sports. Crypto.com is a massive platform that has a wealth of features, including crypto payments and full transparency via its blockchain-based assets. However, it primarily focuses on traditional financial markets and crypto.

That’s why Crypto.com launched OG. This prediction platform is filled with sports stats, which is why hardcore hockey pickers use it. Like Kalshi and Crypto.com, OG also offers legal trading, along with the option to make payments in USD or cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

If beginner-friendly features and market coverage are your thing, we recommend Kalshi. For customer service and robust software, Crypto.com is our top pick. Finally, if you’re big on stats, OG.com is the OG of hockey prediction markets.
