Go for a Chelsea win in this one. It is unlikely to be a one-sided encounter, but we fancy the Blues to edge it.

It is hard to know what to make of Chelsea, perhaps the most Jekyll and Hyde team in the Premier League. Sometimes you watch them and think they are not too far off a title challenge. On other occasions they seem further away from that ultimate objective than any time this century.
Last weekend we saw Bad Chelsea on display. Not for the first (or, no doubt, the last) time this season, a sloppy piece of defending saw Liam Rosenior’s side give away a cheap goal to Newcastle United. Eddie Howe's men defended manfully thereafter and denied Chelsea clear-cut opportunities to equalize. The Blues did not have the nous or guile to break their opponents down.
It could prove to be a costly defeat. Chelsea are involved in a four-way tussle for three Champions League qualification berths behind Arsenal and Manchester City. One of the west Londoners, Aston Villa, Liverpool or Manchester United will miss out on a top-five finish. As things stand, Chelsea are in a vulnerable position.
That is in part because, of the four contenders, they have one of the trickier run-ins. Chelsea still have to face Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool before the campaign is out. A trip to Sunderland on the final day looks like a potential banana skin. And meetings with relegation battlers like Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur will not necessarily be straightforward either.
At the same time, Chelsea's defense does not exactly inspire confidence. Neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen has been convincing between the posts. Chelsea have some good individual defenders in front of their goalkeeper, but there is a notable lack of experience in their backline - a shortcoming that the club's hierarchy has bafflingly not addressed across multiple transfer windows.
The likes of Aston Villa, Manchester United and Liverpool have weaknesses of their own, otherwise they would be fighting for the title rather than the top five. Yet there is not a great degree of confidence among the Chelsea fan base right now. Rosenior has a big job on his hands.

Everton were also beaten last time out, and while a defeat by Arsenal away from home was to be expected, the manner of it will have stung David Moyes and his players. Everton were level at the Emirates Stadium until the 89th minute, when Viktor Gyokeres finally broke their dogged resistance. Max Dowman then doubled Arsenal's advantage deep into stoppage time.
Despite the result, there were elements of the performance that Moyes will have been pleased with. Only Arsenal and Manchester City have collected more points away from home than Everton this season, and the Toffees once again proved obdurate opponents at a rival ground.
With five clubs set to qualify for the Champions League and both the EFL Cup and FA Cup likely to be won by a side which books a spot in Europe via the Premier League, eighth place is likely to be enough for a spot in the Conference League. Two English clubs have won that tournament since its launch in 2021/22 (including Chelsea), so it is a prize worth fighting for.
Everton are in the mix. Given they have been involved in several relegation dogfights in recent years, that is a good position for the club to be in. A victory over Chelsea would aid their cause immensely.
“It was a challenge for us to see if we could step into it and really test Arsenal,” Moyes said last weekend when asked about his team’s European ambitions.
“We have pushed Arsenal close in the two games. We are close enough to be thinking about it, but I am right up for the fight and the players are as well. We are going to have to win some big games in order to achieve it.”

Goodison Park was one of the most iconic and atmospheric grounds in English soccer, but it is fair to say that Everton are still getting used to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, their new home as of this season. Only five of their 15 Premier League games in front of their own fans have yielded all three points. In 2025/26 at least, Everton have been much more reliable at opposition stadiums than their own.
That is one reason why, despite their issues, we fancy Chelsea to come out on top. Another is that, for all their defensive issues, they have the offensive players to cause any team in the division problems. Cole Palmer appears to have put his injury problems behind him and Joao Pedro has been scoring plenty of goals since Rosenior arrived at the club from Strasbourg in January.
There is evidence, too, that Rosenior’s team fare better on their travels than they do at Stamford Bridge, where visiting teams have learned to sit deep and make life difficult for the west Londoners. Chelsea have won four domestic away games on the bounce.
Taking all that into account, we recommend tipping Chelsea to beat Everton this weekend. This is an important match for both teams and Everton will fight hard, but Rosenior's side should eke out a victory at the Hill Dickinson.
