Sports bettors in Missouri won’t have to wait much longer to start placing wagers.
The state will open a pre-registration window for residents to sign up with online sportsbooks starting on Monday, November 17. New customers will be able to claim a range of exclusive promotions, earning bonus bets, odds boosts, and other offerings before the market’s December 1 launch. A total of 9 online sportsbooks have been approved to launch, giving bettors plenty of options.
In order to sign up for a sportsbook in the Show-Me State, customers will need to be at least 21 years old. They will also need to be located inside the state’s borders, even for residents.
Missouri’s sports betting market will allow bettors a wide array of options when placing their wagers. That includes betting on college sports, which includes in-state teams like the University of Missouri Tigers. However, player prop bets involving college athletes will not be allowed.
Customers who sign up for sportsbooks during the pre-registration window will be able to make deposits and check out the app. No wagers will be allowed until the December 1 launch.
Of the nine sportsbooks approved for licenses in Missouri, one will no longer be in operation. Disney and Penn Entertainment recently announced they were terminating their partnership to operate the ESPN Bet sportsbook. The platform failed to turn a profit after setting lofty expectations, leading the two sides to agree to shutter it in December.
With Penn already paying for one of Missouri’s sports betting licenses, they have decided to launch theScore Bet in the failed platform’s place. The platform is currently operating in Canada but will now enter the US market.
Penn will need approval from the Missouri Gaming Commission for the switch. Since the regulator has already approved ESPN Bet's launch, it is expected that they will allow Penn to transfer it to theScore Bet.
