LIV Golf South Africa Predictions: Wolff Has Bite

Updated: March 11, 2026, 05:17 AM ET
7 min read

LIV Golf is all set for a big week in Johannesburg.

South African golfers have played a big part in the rebel league’s growth.

Charl Schwartzel won the very first event and Branden Grace claimed the second.

Since then, Dean Burmester has been a two-time winner and Louis Oosthuizen has done everything but win.

As part of the newly named Southern Guards GC the four have also enjoyed plenty of success in the team competition.

But now they get the first opportunity to compete on home soil in the Inaugural LIV South Africa.

It promises to be a big week at The Club at Steyn City which is a Jack Nicklaus design set inside an exclusive city.

The last two weeks have witnessed long-awaited victories for LIV superstars Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau - what can we expect this week in the final event before the first major of 2026, the Masters?

Let’s take a closer look at the task ahead.

  • Both Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau have broken win droughts in the last fortnight

  • DeChambeau succeeded in a playoff despite finding water from the tee

  • The host venue is the lavish Club at Steyn City

  • Nicklaus designs demand smart driving and distance control with approaches

  • The greens feature bent grass

  • When winning Bachem and Norris both gained over 2 strokes in Putting

  • Bachem and 2022 runner-up also excelled in SG Off the Tee

Contenders to Win LIV Golf South Africa

Jon Rahm (+350) at BetMGM Sportsbook

The Spaniard remains a LIV phenomenon. He’s made 29 completed starts on the circuit and the worst finish among them was T11. Moreover, his last eight starts have included two fifths, five seconds and victory two starts ago at LIV Hong Kong. He’s also a solid performer on Nicklaus designs. He has won at Muirfield Village and been second at both Glen Abbey and Sherwood.

Bryson DeChambeau (+700) at BetMGM Sportsbook

The big-hitter broke his 10-month win drought last week in Singapore, and in dramatic fashion. He thrashed a final round 66 to join Richard T Lee at the top of the 72-hole scoring. He then found water from the tee of the first extra hole, still made par and then watched Lee miss a tiddler for his own par. He is also a two-time winner on Nicklaus designs.

Joaquin Niemann (+1200) at BetMGM Sportsbook

Last week’s fourth place in LIV Singapore was a welcome bolt from the blue for the Chilean. Why so? Well, after his five wins on LIV last year, he lost form in desperate style. He missed four straight cuts before and after New Year, then went three LIV starts without a top 10. His Nicklaus form is not great: just two finishes better than T20 in 11 starts.

Wolff Has Bite

After the best part of a year of poor form and injury problems, the still-young American Matthew Wolff has rediscovered his mojo in recent weeks, and the compilers haven’t quite caught up with that.

He was T14 at LIV Adelaide, T5 at LIV Hong Kong, and T8 at LIV Singapore last week.

Moreover, when he was struggling last year, his one bright spot was T6 at Jack Nicklaus Korea.

And, at his best, he has played very well at altitude. He was T4 at LIV Las Vegas, T3 at LIV Greenbrier, and twice second in Las Vegas on the PGA Tour.

He’s a very tasty +5000 each way option with BetMGM.

DJ Can Spin a Tune

Dustin Johnson opened 2026 with two top 20s that offer promise for the year, and last week’s T10 confirmed he is heading in the right direction.

And, at his best, he should like this test.

He has been a Nicklaus design winner at Glen Abbey and also enjoyed success at Muirfield Village.

He has also won LIV Las Vegas and the WGC Mexico Championship at altitude.

Expecting him to win might be a little over-enthusiastic, but he has a very good chance of making it four top 20s in five starts this year.

Take the many hints and back him to make the top 20 at -135 via BetMGM.

Burmester Can Start Fast

Local man Dean Burmester has plenty in his favor this week.

Playing at altitude on the Johannesburg high veldt? He’s won there three times.

Form on Nicklaus tracks? Another win.

Course form? He was second at Steyn City in 2022.

Form? He has three top 10s in his last three LIV starts.

Form on home soil? A Thursday 65 earned him the first round lead in the South African Open at the start of the month.

That last point is the clincher because the pressure will be on this week for all the South Africans, but less so on Thursday when they could really fly high.

Take him to make a swift start and back him each way with BetMGM offering +2000.
