The Boston Red Sox have lost four games in a row, and there is a real possibility they’re swept over the next five games. I’m backing the Braves to take advantage of a cold Boston club.

The Atlanta Braves just surpassed .500 for the first time this season following their epic losing streak to begin the year. Atlanta is just 8-15 on the road, but coming off a win against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox have turned into one of the most average baseball teams in the league. They’re 22-24 and 11-10 at home. They don’t pitch well out of the bullpen and they consistently fail to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Lucas Giolito will pitch for Boston, and he is 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He has allowed 17 hits in 16.1 innings.
When Giolito mixes up his pitch arsenal, he is serviceable, but it’s too early to tell how he will be over 140 innings. The Red Sox aren’t playing team baseball, and they always come up short late in games.
They lead baseball in one run losses, and they’re favored with an unreliable pitcher on the mound. Atlanta is surging at the right time, so back the Braves.

The Detroit Tigers look like a legitimate threat to beat the Yankees in the American League. Detroit has won four games in a row, including two walk-off wins over the Red Sox.
Detroit has a solid pitcher on the mound in Reese Olson. He is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. The WHIP is slightly elevated, but he has struck out 45 batters in 42.2 inning, while allowing just two home runs.
Olson’s biggest positive is that he doesn’t surrender home runs, making him an effective pitching option. The Blue Jays will likely throw a bullpen game, but I don’t believe the variability will help Olson in this spot.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the largest favorites of the day over the Pirates. Pittsburgh is 15-30 with a 6-17 road record. They have already fired their manager, and players like Paul Skenes have expressed their distaste.
The Phillies have a pitching edge with Zack Wheeler, who is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. He has allowed just 42 hits in 58 innings with 74 strikeouts.
Wheeler is having a record season, and is currently third in the Cy Young award odds. Carmen Mlodzinksi will pitch for Pittsburgh, and he is 1-3 with a 5.2 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.
Philadelphia should tee off against Pittsburgh, resulting in a win.
