Cubs vs. Tigers - Ben Brown vs. Tarik Skubal (7:10 PM, EST)

The Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs both have explosive hitters at the top of their lineup. This can make NRFI betting hard with the two teams, but I’m taking the bet on Friday because Tarik Skubal is on the mound.

Skubal hasn’t allowed many runs this season, whether it’s in the first inning or the other frames where he has the ball. The pitcher is 5-2 with a 2.26 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP.

The pitcher has allowed just 53 hits in 75.2 innings with 99 strikeouts. His dominance has been remarkable, and I believe it will carry into Friday’s game. 

Pete Crow-Armstrong is the toughest bat in the Cubs lineup. He is batting .275 with 16 home runs, but Skubal should have a plan to face the sensational rookie. 

The tough part of this bet will be in the bottom of the first when the Tigers bat against the Cubs. Ben Brown will pitch for Chicago, and he is 3-3 with a 5.72 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. 

Despite the shaky numbers, Brown should have plenty of momentum coming into Friday. He pitched six innings against the Reds and allowed just one hit and nine strikeouts. 

If this version of Brown shows up, the NRFI should easily hit in this matchup.

Braves vs. Giants - Spencer Schwellenbach vs. Hayden Birdsong (10:15 PM, EST)

Spencer Schwellenbach has been an elite arm for the Braves. He has done an excellent job keeping them afloat despite the tough times for Atlanta. 

The Braves collapsed against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, leading to a 27-34 loss. The pitcher is 4-4 with a 3.13 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP.

The Braves are desperate for a win, and they should have an intense level of focus to open the contest. Hayden Birdsong will throw for the Giants, and he has been great as well. 

Birdsong is 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP in 2025. He has allowed just 35 hits in 28 innings with 40 strikeouts. 

Birdsong has a walk issue, but his junk pitches are good enough to get out of jams. The Braves offense has been strong at the top of the order since Ronald Acuna Jr. returned, but I still like the NRFI on Friday.
