NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Luka Doncic, Anthony Edwards & More Picks for Thursday, April 2

As the weekend beckons, I’ve assembled five of my favorite NBA player prop picks and bets for Thursday.

Paul George played his best game as a Philadelphia 76er, going for 39 points and six assists in only three quarters in a high-scoring win against the Washington Wizards. Jaylen Brown also stepped up for the Boston Celtics to lead them past Bam Adebayo’s 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Miami Heat.

There’s no bigger matchup on Thursday than the Los Angeles Lakers visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder in a battle between NBA MVP winner favorites Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Before that, though, the Minnesota Timberwolves will visit the Detroit Pistons in another fiery matchup between future playoff teams.

Luka Doncic Over 32.5 Points (-102) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Doncic is in one of the best scoring streaks of his career, and he recently became the first player since Michael Jordan to average more than 40 points in a six-game stretch on the road. He cashed the over in seven of his last eight games and scored at least 41 points in three straight contests.

Doncic is aware that he is in an MVP battle, and he has the shot volume to get over this number. The Thunder are one of the stingiest defenses in all of basketball, and while they held Doncic to 19 points in their only head-to-head encounter, he has been out of this world on the offensive end recently.

Dillon Brooks Under 14.5 Points (-112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Brooks returned from an injury to score nine points on 4-13 (30.8 percent) shooting in 22 minutes against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. He comes back to a team that now has Jalen Green firmly in the rotation, along with the full complement of Devin Booker, Collin Gillespie, and Grayson Allen, among others.

No team in basketball allowed fewer points per game than the Charlotte Hornets did over the last few weeks of play. Brooks had impressive moments as a scorer early in the year, but his lack of rhythm, diminishing role in the offense, and Charlotte’s defense are enough reasons to take his under.

Anthony Edwards Over 3.5 Assists (-104) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Edwards came back from a couple of weeks off the court in Monday’s blowout win over the Dallas Mavericks, dishing out four assists in only 23 minutes. He hit the over in five straight games and averaged 3.7 assists per game, although he has not seen the Pistons this season.

Even with Cade Cunningham out of the lineup, the Pistons have continued to play great defense and hold their opponents to a low number of assists. That said, this is a low line, and Edwards will have the ball in his hands more than enough times to get to the over if his teammates knock down their shots.

Kawhi Leonard Over 27.5 Points (-106) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Leonard averaged a career-high 28.1 points per game this season, although he went under this line in three of his last four outings. However, he took fewer shots than he’s accustomed to in several of those, and a regression to the mean would put him in a good spot tonight.

The Klaw went over with 30 points in his only previous matchup with the San Antonio Spurs on March 6. Victor Wembanyama is in the middle of an MVP charge, and in the event that he gets rolling from the field, I could see Leonard stepping up as a volume scorer for his team.

Draymond Green Under 5.5 Assists (-136) at FanDuel Sportsbook

At the simplest level, assists are registered when a player passes the ball to a teammate who then almost immediately makes a shot. There is such a severe lack of scoring talent on the Golden State Warriors that I’m not sure Green getting over this number is very realistic.

The Cavaliers haven’t exactly played great defense recently, and while Green split the over/under in his last eight games, several of his overs were against bad defenses. The Dubs are on the second night of a back-to-back, and I don’t feel very good about their chances in this matchup.
