Lamar Jackson suffered an injury in last week’s contest against New England
The Green Bay Packers are 1.5 games back from first in the NFC North
The Packers front seven ranks above league average in Run Defense Win Rate
After last week’s loss to Chicago, the Green Bay Packers hopes of winning the NFC North are on life support as they are currently 1.5 games back from the Bears for first. Luckily for the Packers, they will have a great opportunity to round back into form on Saturday as they face off against the Baltimore Ravens who may be without Lamar Jackson after the former two time MVP suffered a back injury in their latest loss to New England.

Since the start of the regular season, Derrick Henry has been able to gash opposing defenses on a weekly basis as the Baltimore Ravens running back ranks top-10 in Yards Over Expected per Attempt. Even when Lamar Jackson was out with an injury earlier in the year, Henry was still able to play at a high level as he averaged over 3.5 Yards per Carry and 75.3 Yards per game during that span.
Unfortunately for Henry, negative regression looms large in Saturday’s matchup against Green Bay as he faces off against a Packers defense who ranks above league average in Run Defense Win Rate. Especially if Jackson is unable to suit up or is noticeably less than 100% as the Packers will be able to shade their linebackers to the middle which will lessen the quality of his running lanes.

When Henry is able to break free from the Packers defensive line, he will be met with more resistance in the second level as their defense blitzes their linebackers at one of the lowest rates in the league. With extra bodies spread across the middle, the Packers will be able to consistently slow Henry down long enough for a nearby defender to help bring him down at the point of contact.

Like Jackson, the Packers are also dealing with injuries as Jordan Love suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to Chicago. While Jackson is trending towards sitting out, Love has already been able to practice in a limited capacity. When at full health, Love has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league as he resides near the top of the board in Quarterback EPA per Play while captaining an offense who ranks 2nd in EPA.
If Love is able to clear concussion protocol, then he will have a great opportunity to build on his momentum as he faces off against a Ravens defense who ranks well below league average in Def DVOA and in Pass Rush PFF Grade. With more time in the pocket to operate, the quality of Love’s passing lanes will drastically improve which increases his chances of moving the ball down the field.

When near the goal line, Romeo Doubs has played a key role in Green Bay’s success as the Packers wide receiver leads the team with 10 Red Zone Receptions while converting half of them into touchdowns. With the Ravens back end struggling to take advantage of the shortened field as their below league average mark in Def EPA indicates, expect Doubs to consistently exploit their gaps in coverage. If Love is unable to clear protocol, then swap this leg of the same game parlay with Josh Jacobs to score instead.
