Tom Aspinall vs. Cyril Gane - Heavyweight Championship

The main event of UFC 321 will see champion Tom Aspinall defend his belt against Cyril Gane.

Aspinall will be feeling the pressure going into this fight: the first time he puts his title on the line since winning the interim championship in July 2024 against Curtis Blaydes. The first round saw Blaydes throw a left, which Aspinall was quick to capitalize on, countering it with a jab of his own, flooring his opponent. He seized the opportunity and finished Blaydes off with a series of ground strikes.

There’s been a big conversation about whether Aspinall deserves the championship since Jon Jones retired. Abu Dhabi will be his chance to show the world of mixed martial arts that he is worthy of holding the belt.

In Aspinall’s way is Cyril Gane, the number one contender, who will be looking to leave the UAE with the belt around his waist. Gane enters the fight following two consecutive victories, with the last being against Alexander Volkov in December. The fight went the distance with Gane declared the victor by split decision.

Gane has got a lot to prove this weekend. He will have been working meticulously with his camp at the MMA Factory to ensure that he walks away from UFC 321 as the best fighter in his division.

Virna Jandiroba vs. Mackenzie Dern - Women’s Strawweight Championship

After current champion Zhang Weili vacated her championship to pursue glory in the Flyweight division, the belt is up for grabs. Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern face off to capture it.

Jandiroba is on a hot streak, winning her last five fights. In her most recent fight against Yan Xiaonan, she picked up the win via unanimous decision. The Brazilian is a master of submissions, finishing 64% of her fights with her opponents tapping. We expect she’ll be looking to lock something in to gain the vacant Strawweight championship in the Etihad Arena.

Mackenzie Dern knows a thing or two about submissions herself. Dern holds the record for the most wins by submission in the division. She ended her last fight with her opponent Amanda Ribas’ tapping after receiving an armbar in the third. This fight will put Dern to the test, as she is fighting one of the most skilled fighters within the division, something her camp has definitely been preparing her for.

Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Mario Bautista - Bantamweight Division

This Bantamweight clash is shaping up to be a battle Umar Nurmagomedov and Mario Bautista will duke it out to firm up their positions within the division.

Nurmagomedov entered the sport with a heavy burden of expectation. He is the cousin of arguably one of the greatest fighters the UFC has ever had to offer in Khabib Nurmagomedov. Umar has lived up to these expectations, only picking up one loss which came in his last fight against Merab Dvalishvili. That fight went all five rounds and Nurmagomedov left unvictorious and unable to capture the championship. He will have been working with his team at AKA to avoid a repeat of that result and regain some momentum.

Bautista comes into UFC 321 hot, winning his last eight fights. In June, he faced off against Patchy Mix, and took the fight to the end of three rounds where he was determined the victor by the panel of judges. As a fighter, Bautista tends to favor holds. Unfortunately for him, his opponent has been trained by one of the greatest grapplers the sport ever witnessed, so he might have a bit of a mission if he decides to take this approach.

Alexander Volkov vs. Jailton Almeida - Heavyweight Division

This Heavyweight bout will have serious consequences on the rest of the division as Alexander Volkov faces Jailton Almeida.

Volkov was unlucky in his last fight against Ciryl Gane, with the fight going the distance but Volkov was ultimately judged the loser. He will be looking to show the division he is a force to be reckoned with and he needs to do this by picking up the win against Almeida. Volkov has a fair few inches on Almeida. It will be interesting to see if he can use his monstrous size to his advantage.

Almeida enters this fight after picking up a victory against Serghei Spivac in January. He was able to mount his opponent’s back and finish him off with a series of punches to the head, making the referee stop the fight. He will need to muster up everything he has against the giant that is Volkov if he wants to add a third win to his streak.

Aleksandar Rakić vs. Azamat Murzakanov - Light Heavyweight Division

The first fight on the main card has Aleksander Rakić taking on Azamat Murzakanov in a bout that will have serious repercussions for the rest of the Light Heavyweight division.

Aleksander Rakić has had a few disappointments coming into this fight, losing three in a row. October saw him clash with Magomed Ankalaev: after three rounds the judges favored Ankalaev’s performance. Rakić needs to pick up the victory against Murzakanov if he wants to be seen as a formidable force within the promotion. He is going to have to use his massive size to his advantage.

Murzakanov has had a fantastic career so far, winning all of his 15 fights. In June, he knocked out Brendson Ribeiro after connecting with a left hook and following it up with a few ground strikes to seal the deal. Murzakanov will be in search of another KO victory, as he has been able to end 73% of his fights in this manner.
