LIV Golf Team Championship Michigan 2025 Predictions

LIV Golf Team Championship Michigan Intro

The individual golf is done for the year at LIV Golf.

Now it is all about the teams.

A new format this year sees an eliminator kick things off before head-to-head matches chop 12 teams down to six, and then six down to three.

The process is matchplay, with every game including two singles and one foursomes.

Then, when three teams remain on Sunday, it reverts back to strokeplay - and all four scores count.

The teams need the explosiveness required for matchplay, the consistency of strokeplay, and a strong team dynamic.

Let’s take a closer look at the field and the task ahead of them.

The Team Championship Format

  • The Play-in: the bottom two teams in the season’s standings playoff in an eliminator

  • Quarter-finals: 12 teams go head-to-head in six matches (two singles, one foursomes)

  • Semi-finals: The six quarter-final winners meet in three matches to determine finalists

  • The final: Strokeplay instead of matchplay - and all four scores count

  • Four of the par-4s are below 400 yards

  • A key feature is the deep bunkering

Contenders to win LIV Golf Team Championship

Legion XIII (+275) at bet365

Individual champion Jon Rahm teams up with Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, and Caleb Surratt. Strong vibes from Rahm, but the other three have been flat in the last few weeks.

Crushers (+320) at bet365

Led by LIV star Bryson DeChambeau alongside Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri. The latter two are both four starts without a top 10, and DeChambeau has gone three starts since his last. But they are all consistent top 20 performers. They need a step up in form, but are up to it.

Fire Balls (+600) at bet365

The all-Latino combo of Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Josele Ballester, and David Puig. Garcia is the weakest form-wise with one top 10 in nine starts, although Ancer has only one in six. Ballester was second two weeks ago, and Puig fourth last week.

Torque (+600) at bet365

Led by five-time winner this year Joaquin Niemann, alongside last week’s winner Sebastian Munoz plus Carlos Ortiz and Mito Pereira. Ortiz is an International Series winner this year and LIV winner last June.

4 Aces (+800) at bet365

Strong Ryder Cup vibes with captain Dustin Johnson (third last week), Captain America Patrick Reed (11th last week), and one-time Euro tyro Thomas Pieters (eighth last week). Harold Varner III (fifth two weeks ago) makes up the quartet.

Torque Have Energy

There’s no reason to think Rahm will not excel for Legion XIII, and Hatton is well capable of lifting himself, but they are a short price against poor form for three of the team.

Take the South American combination of Torque to spring a surprise.

Niemann will be desperate for revenge after winning five times this season and losing the Individual Championship.

Munoz was a winner last week, his third top 10 in four starts.

Ortiz has been fourth twice in the last fortnight.

Pereira is their weak link, but he was 13th two weeks ago.

Proud Saffers Can Sting

Can the South African veterans Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel find something this week?

If they can, Stinger has a good chance of a coup.

Branden Grace finished the individual season off in style with three top five finishes in four starts.

And Dean Burmester went better, winning LIV Chicago two weeks ago after being fifth at LIV UK in his previous start.

Stinger won the team event at Chicago, too, when Grace and Schwartzel both made birdie at the playoff hole.

Schwarztel has been second this year, in Miami, and Oosthuizen was second after losing in extra holes at LIV Dallas in June. So they remain well capable of world class golf.

And the South Africans love this format.

Back them each way at +1200 with bet365.
