Home Run Picks for Tuesday, July 1

Aaron Judge Home Run (+172) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Judge hit nine home runs in June and is a good candidate to start July with a home run. Despite going hitless in three of his last four games, Judge hit two home runs on Sunday, so his power can come at any time. Facing Toronto’s Kevin Gausman should also help.

In his career, Judge is 14 for 41 (.341) with six home runs against Gausman. That’s an impressive track record, making Judge someone who should be targeted with a home run prop on Tuesday. Keep in mind that Gausman has given up 12 homers this season, including eight in just seven home starts, adding to the likelihood that Judge can take him deep.

Eugenio Suarez Home Run (+310) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Suarez has heated up lately with an eight-game hitting streak that includes five multi-hit games and five home runs. He hit a home run yesterday, so we might be a day late on him, but Suarez also had three straight games with a home run at the start of his eight-game hitting streak. If his power continues to come in bunches, Suarez could go deep again on Tuesday.

San Francisco’s Hayden Birdsong appears to be a favorable matchup for Suarez. He’s faced Birdsong just four times in his career, but he’s homered against him twice. It’s a small sample size, but it’s still a good sign for Suarez, especially since Birdsong has allowed four home runs over his last three starts.

James Wood Anytime Home Run (+350) at FanDuel Sportsbook

With 22 home runs, Wood is becoming a player who needs to be considered for a home run prop virtually every day. One concern is that he’s drawn seven walks over his last three games, as pitchers aren’t giving him good pitches to hit. But Wood is also 4 for 8 during that stretch, so he’s still being productive and has the power to go deep at any time.

Granted, Wood has never faced Jack Flaherty, who starts for the Tigers against Washington on Tuesday. But Flaherty has allowed 16 home runs this year, putting him among the most homer-prone pitchers in baseball. Five of those 16 have come in Flaherty’s last 13 innings, so it’s been a big problem for him lately, making Wood a good home run candidate.

Yandy Diaz Anytime Home Run (+400) at FanDuel Sportsbook

We hit on Junior Caminero yesterday, so we’ll try another member of the Rays on Tuesday, with Tampa still playing at home. With 13 home runs, Diaz’s power is sometimes overlooked. With 10 of those 13 home runs coming at home despite a much better batting average on the road, a home game is the perfect time to target Diaz.

Meanwhile, lefty Jeffrey Springs will start for the A’s against Diaz and the Rays. Springs has allowed 14 home runs this season, giving up at least one in seven of his last eight starts. Naturally, right-handed hitters have done most of the damage, accounting for 13 of those 14 home runs. That makes a right-handed power hitter like Diaz the most likely player in Tampa’s lineup to take Springs deep on Tuesday.
