Picking home run props isn’t always as complicated as it sounds. For Wednesday, we found a few hitters who have been red-hot lately, most of whom are matched up against pitchers who give up a lot of homers. Sometimes, it’s that simple, and there’s no need to overthink things.

Ohtani cooled off for a little bit in terms of his power, but he’s raging hot again, hitting a home run in four straight games. Granted, Ohtani has never homered in five straight games. But it’s still hard to bet against him when he gets on a streak like this. He obviously came back from the All-Star break rejuvenated.
The Dodgers also have a favorable matchup on Wednesday, facing Minnesota’s Chris Paddack. He’s allowed three home runs across his last two starts and owns a 7.80 ERA in July. Paddack has also allowed 16 homers this season, with 12 of those coming on the road, so he’ll be vulnerable against a red-hot Ohtani.

Despite going hitless with three strikeouts on Tuesday, Suarez is among the hottest hitters in baseball. He’s hit five home runs in his last four games, so one bad game against Framber Valdez and his 2.67 ERA isn’t necessarily going to cool off Suarez completely. With 10 home runs in July, Suarez can pick up where he left off.
The pitching matchup on Wednesday also plays in Suarez’s favor. The Astros are sending lefty Brandon Walter to the hill. Walter has allowed at least one home run in seven of his eight starts. He’s totaled nine homers conceded in just 46.2 innings, and all but one of those homers have been hit by a right-handed hitter. Why not take a chance on Suarez, especially with these odds?

Once again, the pitcher plays a key role in this selection. Pittsburgh’s Bailey Falter has allowed 16 home runs this season. In July, he’s allowed multiple homers in all three of his starts, totaling seven home runs in just 14.1 innings. Naturally, 13 of his 16 home runs have been hit by right-handed hitters, which is why we’re targeting Torkelson over Riley Greene.
While Greene has been Detroit’s best power hitter, Torkelson has 21 home runs this year. Even as the Tigers continue to struggle as a team, Torkelson is 4 for 8 with two doubles over the first two games of this series in Pittsburgh. He’s also slugging .638 against lefties, putting him in a good spot against Falter.

Harper was heating up before the All-Star break, and he’s kept it going. He has at least one hit in eight of his last nine games, smashing four home runs during that stretch. Harper also has nine doubles during that span, so he’s hitting a lot of extra-base hits right now, making him a good home run target.
Wednesday’s pitching matchup against Lucas Giolito isn’t ideal. Giolito has given up just nine homers all season. However, Harper has previously homered against Giolito in just three career at-bats against him. Harper also has a much higher slugging percentage and a better home run rate at home, so taking Giolito or the Boston bullpen deep at Citizens Bank Park isn’t that far-fetched.
