The Mets' deficit in the NL East continues to grow, but that’s not Pete Alonso’s fault. The slugger is in a contract year and has stepped up in a big way, posting 28 home runs and 96 RBIs along with a career-high .267 average. Below, we’ll share why we like him to go deep tonight, along with two other home run prop bets we love.

The Cubs' first baseman is not having a strong August, but he will have an excellent chance to go deep tonight with Max Scherzer (2-2, 4.21 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) on the mound. Busch has never faced the 41-year-old before; he has hammered right-handed pitching all season. He’s batting .283 against righties, posting 20 of his 22 home runs this season.
Scherzer has been hammered by injuries again in 2025, and he hasn’t looked great when healthy. He has delivered three consecutive quality starts, but they were far from perfect. With seven home runs over his last five starts (30 innings).
As poorly as the Cubs have been playing, a big night for Busch and the boys against an aging starter could be just what they need to turn things around.

Kyle Stowers has cooled off since a red-hot July, but still has 25 home runs and a solid .284 batting average. Some of his best hitting continues to come on the road, where he owns a .913 OPS. He’ll be on the road tonight, and we love his chances to add another home run with a struggling young pitcher on the mound.
The Guardians will have Tanner Bibee (8-9, 4.60 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) starting tonight. He has regressed badly after an impressive 2023 season, and his inability to keep the ball in the park is a reason why. His 22 home runs surrendered are tied for the tenth-most in baseball, and there aren’t any signs he’s close to turning things around.
Bibee has a 7.20 ERA over two starts (ten innings) in August.

The Polar Bear is continuing the best season of his impressive career, posting a .267 average with 28 home runs and 96 RBIs. He has been especially great at home, where his OPS is .908 compared to .853 on the road. Combine that with a .350 average and six home runs through the first 12 days of August, and you can see why we are happy to back him to go deep again tonight.
Alonso will be facing a struggling Bryce Elder (4-9, 6.12 ERA, 1.56 WHIP) to start tonight’s game. The 26-year-old broke out in 2023, but has posted an ERA over 6.00 ever since. There are games where he looks like an ace, but they are followed by several ugly outings. He enters tonight's game riding a three-game losing streak, where he’s posted an ugly 8.80 ERA and 1.63 WHIP.
Pete Alonso has faced Elder eight times, posting three hits and one home run.
