We continue to fade the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers top of their orders as both struggling offenses are set to face off against a pair of young pitchers who excel at avoiding contact. A few hours after their opening pitch, we turn our attention towards the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres as MacKenzie Gore and Nick Pivetta are in a favorable position to rack up another high rate of Strikeouts.

After narrowly winning the NL Cy Young in his rookie campaign, Paul Skenes has managed to carry over his momentum into this season as the Pittsburgh Pirates ace is currently listed as the heavy betting favorite to win the pitchers award this season. Heading into Wednesday’s contest against Milwaukee, Skenes is averaging an ERA of 1.85, a WHIP of 0.882, and a FIP of 2.49.
Against the Brewers, Skenes will have a great opportunity to strengthen his claim for the NL Cy Young award as he faces off against an offense who ranks 16th overall in Contact Rate and in Strikeout Rate. Especially with his back end lessening the amount of contact variance in his starts as the Pirates defense currently ranks above league average in Defensive Efficiency and in Fielding Percentage.
Like Skenes, Jacob Misiorowski has also managed to put together a strong start to his career as the Brewers pitcher went 11 innings before conceding his first Hit and is averaging less than one Hit Allowed per Inning Pitched. In a matchup against the Pirates, Misiorowski will be able to build on his hot start as he faces off against an offense who ranks near dead last in Team Total Hits and in On Base Percentage.

After ranking near the top of the board in most key offensive metrics last season, the San Diego Padres have failed to recapture the same success they had last year as their offense currently ranks below league average in Contact Rate, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage. A stunning turnaround, yet their lack of depth hurts their chances of remaining competitive for the full duration of their contests.
To make matters worse for San Diego, negative regression looms large over their star studded top of their order as they are set to face off against MacKenzie Gore who has been dominant since the start of the regular season. As of writing, Gore currently leads the NL in total Strikeouts while generating an ERA of 3.19, a WHIP of 1.194, and a FIP of 2.94.
On the other side of the field, Nick Pivetta is in a favorable position to thrive as he is set to battle it out against an offense who also ranks in the bottom half of the board in the same previously mentioned metrics. The Nationals struggles with making contact will continue to persist as Pivetta enters the contest averaging less than one Hit Allowed per Inning Pitched and a WHIP of 1.083.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies - Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Chase Dollander - Expect the reigning World Series champions to open up the scoring in the first inning against the Colorado Rockies as they are set to battle it out against Chase Dollander who is currently averaging a FIP of 6.02 and a WHIP of 1.482.
