The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series makes its first stop of the year at a road course.
In 2018, the Cup Series had a road course in the playoffs for the first time.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway's infield course now makes it three road course rounds for the series.
Ten drivers in the field have already won at a road course in the Cup Series.
With the final break before the playoffs now behind, the regular season enters its decisive stretch.

Favorites to Win the 2019 Toyota/Save Mart 350
Former points leader Kyle Busch enters yet another weekend as the early favorite.
The 2015 champion leads all active drivers with four road course wins over his career.
Busch is a two time winner at Sonoma, with the other two wins coming at Watkins Glen.
The Joe Gibbs driver's most recent win at Sonoma came in 2015, during his title-winning campaign.
Busch has three consecutive top 5 finishes at the track, including a win, and four in the top 10.
He also leads all drivers this season in wins (four), top 5 (nine) and top 10 (13) in 14 starts.
Martin Truex Jr.
Teammate Martin Truex Jr. is the defending race winner.
Also a two time winner at Sonoma, the Joe Gibbs driver are somewhat inconsistent.
Despite being the only other driver with multiple wins at Sonoma, Truex's average is rather poor.
The 2017 champion only has one top 5 and two top 10 finished aside from his two victories.
This season, Truex is tied for the second most wins with three.
These three wins came in six starts, but they also happen to be his only top 10 finishes in eight races.
Despite this, he should feature among the favorites for this round.
Kevin Harvick has two career wins at road courses in the Cup Series.
The 2014 champion scored his first victory at Sonoma in 2017.
Harvick finished second in 2018, and now has four consecutive top 10 finishes at the track.
He is fourth among active drivers with an average career finish of 13.11 at Sonoma.
The Stewart-Haas driver, like the rest of the team, is still winless in 2019.
Harvick is fourth in points, with five top 5 and ten top 10 finishes.
Outside Picks for the 2019 Toyota/Save Mart 350
Chase Elliott's rise continues in 2019.
Already inside the top 5 in points, the Hendrick Motorsports driver had five consecutive top 5 finishes before Michigan.
Now a solid championship contender, #9 is also a solid pick for Sonoma.
Despite having never won at the track, he is second among active drivers with a career average finish of 11.
Elliott has one top 5 and two top 10 in three starts at the track.
Skilled at road courses, the fourth-year driver scored his first win in the Cup Series at Watkins Glen, in 2018.
His first win in a NASCAR national series also came at a road course.
Elliott won at Mosport in 2013 as a part-time driver in the Truck Series.
Kyle Larson leads all active drivers with two pole-positions at Sonoma in only five starts.
More impressively, #42 has never started outside the top 5 at the road course.
Despite having the raw pace, the Chip Ganassi driver has struggled to translate it into results.
Larson has never finished inside the top 10 at his home track.
He has a best finish of 12th, with only 11 laps led.
His performance in 2019 has been disappointing as well, with only one top 5 and four top 10 finishes.
Larson is currently 15th in the standings and hasn't won a race in the last 61 starts.
Clint Bowyer leads all active drivers with an average finish of 10.08 at Sonoma.
The Stewart-Haas driver has only finished outside the top 10 three times in 13 starts at the track.
He leads all drivers in top 5, with eight, and is tied with Kurt Busch in top 10 results.
Bowyer has three top 3 finishes in the last four races at the Californian road course.
He scored a dominant win back in 2012, leading 71 laps.
However, like his Stewart-Haas teammates, #14 is still winless this season.
Bowyer is 12th in points, having scored five top 5 and eight top 10 in 14 races.
What You Need to Know for Sonoma
It goes without saying, but road course races are completely different compared to ovals.
Most drivers are skilled at road courses these days, so the usual favorites have a shot at winning.
Pit strategy is arguably the most important point nowadays.
Due to the track's length, pitting under green does not cost a lap.
This means that pitting under caution is actually a huge disadvantage.
Full course cautions play a major role in shaping up the race.
While pace is important, working out the correct pit window is much more important.
In other words, these races tend to be a bit of a rollercoaster, with the running order changing consistently.
