The Niners' offense had them looking like Super Bowl LX contenders against the Bears last week, but their defense reminded us why we have our doubts. See the latest Super Bowl odds and predictions here.
While San Francisco’s defense has outperformed all expectations since Fred Warner and Nick Bosa went down, last week showed they remain vulnerable. Chicago managed to score 38 points and gain 440 yards, converting 50% of their third-down attempts. The defense came close to losing this game by allowing the Bears to drive down to the red zone at the end, where a low pass handed them the win.
The Seahawks offense will present an even more challenging test this week. They are averaging 29.3 points per game over their last six, which includes an 18-point dud against the Colts. While their run game isn’t as dangerous as the Bears’, the Seattle pass attack features far more talent.
As good as Seattle’s offense has been, its defense is arguably the best in the NFL. They allow the second-fewest points per game (18.1) and lead the NFL in third-down success (32.4).
While the Niners' offense is healthy, don’t count on their hot streak continuing against an elite Seahawks defense.

The Seahawks' top receiver leads the NFL with 1,709 yards this season. He continues to be the heart of the offense, with 10+ targets in five of his last seven games. That makes him a great yardage bet most weeks, but we believe Saturday’s matchup makes this wager a lock.
The Niners' pass defense continues to be one of the league’s worst, ranking in the bottom ten of the league in yards and touchdowns allowed through the air. The injuries to their pass rush have had a massive impact, which we saw again last week. Despite missing their top two receivers, the Bears still managed to have Caleb Williams pass for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
If you still aren’t sold, look at what rookie Luter Burden III did to the Niners' defense last week. He had eight catches for 138 yards, missing just one of his nine targets. JSN is far harder to defend, leading us to expect an even bigger day.

Sam Darnold only managed 147 passing yards last week, but surpassed this total in the previous two games. While San Francisco was outstanding against him in Week 1, they still had their stars, and Darnold was making his first start with his new team. With his play improving over the season, the quarterback will get some payback in a crucial game.
We talked about how bad the Niners' pass defense has been above, so that we won’t beat you over the head with that again here. However, it is worth noting that 44-year-old Phillip Rivers passed for 277 yards against the Niners in his second game back from his five-year retirement. Sam Darnold may not be perfect, but he is far more dangerous than Rivers.
