Aaron Rodgers has only thrown multiple touchdown passes once in his past six games
The Steelers have faced the third-most pass attempts in the NFL this season
The Detroit defense gives up the second-fewest receiving yards to opposing running backs
The Week 16 NFL schedule includes a compelling inter-conference matchup between the 8-6 Detroit Lions and the 8-6 Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams are fighting to earn a spot in the playoffs and don’t have much margin for error with three weeks left in the season. Needless to say, both teams will be relying on their star players to step up in a big game and lead them to a win.
The Steelers head into Week 16 with a slim lead over the Ravens atop the AFC North. For now, they are the favorites to win the division, but not by much. As for the Lions, they are considered a long shot to win the NFC North despite dominating the division the past two seasons. Despite being outside of the playoff picture if the season ended today, the Lions remain a threat to win the NFC if they can finish strong and make it to the postseason.
With both teams in need of a win, the question is which star players will step up and deliver a star performance. We’ve taken a close look at the matchup and picked out three player prop bets we feel confident about for the Lions-Steelers game.

Rodgers isn’t exactly racking up the passing touchdowns this season. He had two last week against Miami, but that was the first time in six games that he had multiple touchdown passes. On the other hand, he had multiple touchdown passes in five of his first seven games, so he’s more than capable of hitting this bet, which comes with plus odds.
The other factor to consider is the Detroit defense. Only the Bengals and Cowboys have allowed more passing touchdowns this season than the Lions. Five of the last seven quarterbacks they’ve faced have thrown at least two touchdowns against them. Since this game has an over/under of more than 50 points, there will be plenty of points scored, giving Rodgers a great opportunity to throw multiple touchdown passes.

Assuming this becomes a high-scoring game as the over/under would suggest, it’s also a good idea to bet on Goff throwing the ball a lot. He threw the ball 41 times in last week’s loss to the Rams, meaning he’s gone over 32.5 pass attempts six times in his last seven games.
While the Lions like their running game, they are leaning more on Goff late in the season in must-win games. That trend isn’t likely to stop in another game the Lions have to win. For what it’s worth, the Steelers have allowed the third-most pass attempts in the NFL, which also points to a high volume of pass attempts for Goff.

Short passes to running backs have been a big part of the Pittsburgh offense this season with Rodgers at quarterback. However, Kenneth Gainwell has proven to be a better pass-catcher than Warren. If the Steelers want to get their running back involved in the passing game, it’ll likely be Gainwell on the field, which is why we’re fading Warren’s receiving yards in this game.
In fairness, Warren has six catches for 64 yards over his past two games. However, Warren has also been held to 11 receiving yards or fewer in six of his last 10 games. The kicker is that the Lions have allowed the second-fewest receiving yards by opposing running backs this season. This is an area where their defense excels, and if the Steelers find a breakthrough, it’ll likely be Gainwell doing so rather than Warren, so his involvement in the passing game should be limited.
