Super Bowl LX Weather: Why Is Nobody Talking About the Key Factor to the Game?

Historic coaches, legendary quarterbacks, and iconic moments are all subordinate to one of the most widely-ignored and crucial factors in any Super Bowl: the weather.

Super Bowl LX is shaping up to be a terrific viewing experience for game-attending fans, according to the latest weather forecasts. But I don’t bring this up out of a passion for meteorology, but because the weather will have a sneakily massive impact on what plays out on the field.

Here's what to know about the Super Bowl weather on Sunday.

The Seahawks Head to a Familiar Venue

According to AccuWeather, the Levi’s Stadium crowd in Santa Clara, California, can expect 67 degrees and partly cloudy skies with a bit of sun on Super Bowl Sunday. That will represent a sharp change for both teams.

The Seahawks didn’t deal with inclement weather during their playoff run, but they did find themselves playing the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams in 30- and 40-degree weather.

Seattle is intimately familiar with making the trip down to the part of California that their divisional rivals call home. Even still, it sets up for a more open game than they are used to playing.

Patriots Sent a Reprieve

Mother Nature put the Patriots through the wringer in the playoffs. They started their postseason run by hosting the Los Angeles Chargers in a game that was defined by 30-degree weather and estimated wind gusts from 20-23mph.

They followed that up by hosting the Texans in a game that featured a real feel of 28 degrees at kickoff, snow, sleet, and battering wind. The conditions resulted in eight combined turnovers, including strip-sacks, punch-outs, and four first-half interceptions by Texans QB C.J. Stroud.

That was still nothing compared to their AFC Championship battle at Mile High. The Pats and Denver Broncos’ matchup for a Super Bowl appearance came to be defined by an out-of-nowhere blizzard that dropped multiple inches of snow onto a field that was clear at halftime before the end of the fourth quarter.

How Will the Weather Impact the Super Bowl Result?

Using the prevailing logic, clear skies and enjoyable weather are more likely to produce a higher-scoring affair, especially with Drake Maye having played as well as anyone, and Sam Darnold being fresh off the best game of his career.

The Super Bowl weather might also be a blessing for the Patriots. They were hardened by the elements but were never able to get their offense going at any point in the playoffs, and this could be a blessing as they prepare to face the stingiest defense in the NFL.

Seahawks coach Mike MacDonald also preached to his team about owning the adversity of cold temperatures and rainy conditions. There isn’t any of that in sight on Sunday.

While 62 percent of spread bets and 67 percent of spread money at FanDuel is still on the Seahawks, the over/under is almost perfectly split. 50 percent of bets are on the over and under, while 53 percent of the handle is on the under.
