The Miami Marlins won’t win the NL East or make the playoffs this season, but fans have plenty of reason to celebrate. That’s because of rookie Jakob Marsee, who went from being an unheralded prospect to one of the hottest hitters in the MLB. We’ll share why we are backing the rookie to go deep tonight, as well as two other home run prop bets we love.

Don’t be fooled by his quiet series in Texas; Christian Yelich is about to go on another monster run. The former NL MVP came alive in August, batting .324 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. While he went 3-13 in Texas, he had multiple blasts that would have been a home run in almost any other park. With this game taking place back in Milwaukee, we expect him to rack up several home runs over the coming homestand.
Tonight, Yelich will be facing veteran starter Sonny Gray (13-8, 4.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) to start tonight’s game. The 35-year-old was turning his season around in August, but he has been hammered over his first two starts of September. He’s allowed ten earned runs over 11 ⅓ innings on 13 hits and seven walks. He also gave up three home runs.
Yelich has taken Gray deep twice over his career, and had a deep shot to open this series last night.

The Toronto first baseman hasn’t been the slugger we thought he’d be, but he is one of the best hitters in baseball. He has 23 home runs and a .303 average, which is the fifth-highest in baseball. He’s been even better in August, with a .474 average, two home runs, and five RBIs. While his average is higher on the road, the majority of his home runs have come at home this season.
Another reason to lock this bet in is that the Orioles will have Tomoyuki Sugano (10-8,4.51 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) on the mound. The 35-year-old rookie transitioned to US baseball well over the first few months, but teams figured him out. Since June 1, he has posted a 5.54 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.
Home runs have also become a problem for the Japanese star. He has allowed six over his last three starts (12 ⅓ innings), including three last week.
Guerrero has faced Sugano five times this season. While he hasn’t taken him deep, he did manage three hits.

The Marlins didn’t expect a superstar to join the roster when they called up Jakob Marsee, but that’s what they have gotten. Since joining Miami on August 1, the 24-year-old is batting .340 with five home runs, 27 RBIs, and ten stolen bases. After entering the season outside of the team’s top 20 prospect rankings, you wouldn’t guess it by watching his incredible MLB debut.
Marsee isn’t the purest power hitter, but has looked like a 20-20 player already. We like him to add another long ball tonight with Charlie Morton (9-10, 5.59 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) starting for the Tigers.
The 41-year-old pitcher is likely entering the final few starts of his impressive career. Unfortunately, his finale has been far from glorious. Since being traded to the Tigers this summer, he has a 6.09 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. He’s allowed a deep ball in four straight starts, and we see him keeping the streak alive tonight.
