After a long winter, opening day of the MLB is finally here! Of course, most teams have to wait until Thursday to get started, but the official start of the 2026 MLB season is Wednesday night, when the New York Yankees visit the San Francisco Giants. While one game doesn’t give us a lot of options, we’ve picked out four players we believe have a chance to open the season with a bang by hitting a home run on opening day.

On any given day, Judge is going to be a good bet to hit a home run. That’s what happens when you hit over 50 home runs in back-to-back seasons and three of the last four years. Despite a somewhat disappointing performance in the World Baseball Classic, Judge did have two home runs in the tournament, so there’s no reason to think he can’t hit the ground running on opening day.
On paper, Judge and the Yankees have a tough assignment on opening day against San Francisco’s Logan Webb. The two were actually WBC teammates earlier this month. Typically, Webb is stingy when it comes to giving up home runs, allowing just 14 over 207 innings last year. But Judge has had past success against Webb, including an opening-day home run in 2023, so it’s not far-fetched to think he can do it again.

With 35 home runs last season, Devers would have led the Giants if he had spent the entire season with the team. Nevertheless, he’s going to be San Francisco’s biggest power threat in 2026. On opening day, Devers figures to be an excellent target for a home run prop despite poor numbers during spring training.
Devers has excellent value for Wednesday’s game in part because he has a lefty-on-lefty matchup against Max Fried. However, Devers is 3 for 9 in his career against Fried, including a home run last June, right before he was traded to the Giants, so this is not as tough a matchup for him as it might seem.

Similar to Devers, Adames had poor numbers during the spring but has good upside as a home run target on opening day. He launched 30 home runs for the Giants last season, reaching that threshold in three of his last four seasons. Plus, Adames isn’t afraid to sell out for power, which isn’t great for his average but does make him a favorable target for a home run prop.
Against Fried, Adames has a limited track record, going just 2 for 6 against the southpaw. However, both of those hits went for doubles. That means Adames is capable of generating power against Fried, making a home run on opening day possible.

Believe it or not, Grisham finished second on the Yankees in home runs last year, racking up 34 long balls during a breakout season. Yet, his odds of going deep on opening day don’t reflect that. One might assume he benefited from the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium. But Grisham actually did most of his damage on the road in 2025.
Grisham is also a respectable 6 for 21 with two doubles in his career against Webb. Left-handed hitters were responsible for eight of the 14 home runs Webb gave up last year. That makes Grisham a good sleeper pick to go deep on opening day.
