The Red Sox took the first of four games against the Yankees on Thursday. I’m anticipating a low-scoring affair on Friday, so I’m siding with no runs being scored in the first inning as well.

The Red Sox vs Yankees games are defined by low scoring pitching battles. These clubs have similar records in the AL East as they are trying to catch Toronto, who has a four game lead.
Boston will start Brayan Bello who is 9-6 with a 3.23 ERA in 2025. His numbers aren’t the best, but I trust him in big games.
In 128 innings, Bello has struck out 97 batters and has a 1.26 WHIP. The Yankees are extremely inconsistent at the plate so I think Bello has a great opportunity on Friday.
The Yankees will counter with Max Fried who has been one of the best pitchers in the league this season. He enters this contest at 13-5 with a 3.26 ERA.
Fried has phenomenal strikeout ability, fanning 141 batters in 2025 with a 1.12 WHIP. I expect Fried to deliver once again on Friday.
It’s scary taking an NRFI when these two teams are playing, but I think this matchup will be defined by great starting pitching. This is a very important series for both clubs as the postseason is on the line.
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the Red Sox and Yankees, and I think this will cause a slow start from the offenses.

The Royals and Tigers are the two best teams in the AL Central. Detroit has a 10.5 game lead but Kansas City could be a sneaky team if they make the playoffs.
Ryan Bergert will start for the Royals. He has a 1-1 record with a 2.75 ERA. He has appeared in 14 games with 10 starts.
Bergert has been phenomenal in his last three starts pitching 16.2 innings while allowing just five earned runs. He has been a huge piece to the puzzle that Kansas City has been missing, and I expect big things from him in this contest.
The Tigers will go with Casey Mize who is 12-4 with a 3.63 ERA. Mize has definitely surpassed expectations in 2025 and he’s one of the best NRFI pitchers in baseball.
With this being a division game, I see both offenses starting slow with the pitchers shining early.

Rockies vs. Pirates - Antonio Senzatela vs. Braxton Ashcraft: Senzatela is 4-14 with an ERA of 7.00 in 2025. The Rockies allow a ton of runs.
Cardinals vs. Rays - Miles Mikolas vs. Adrian Houser: Houser has been solid this season, but Mikolas is one of the worst pitchers in baseball.
