After giving up just three Hits and two Earned Runs in his last outing against Seattle, Max Scherzer will have the opportunity to build on his momentum on Monday night as the former Cy Young winner faces off against a Los Angeles Dodgers offense who strikes out at a high rate. With Tyler Glasnow also in a position to thrive, expect no runs to be scored in the first inning in game three of the World Series.

It has been a roller coaster of a year for the Toronto Blue Jays Max Scherzer as the former Cy Young winner finished his 2025 campaign with an ERA of 5.19, a WHIP of 1.294, and a FIP of 4.99. His low Whiff Rate played a major role in his struggles this season as Scherzer also averaged less than one Strikeout and more than one Hit Allowed per Inning Pitched.
Surprisingly to the delight of Toronto fans, Scherzer was able to round back into competitive form in the playoffs as he finished his last outing conceding just three Hits and two Earned Runs in a win against the Seattle Mariners. While the sample size is small, it was still encouraging to see Scherzer take back control of his command as he finished the contest with an ERA of 3.18 while averaging one Strikeout per inning.
Heading into game three, Scherzer will be able to build on his momentum as he faces off against the Los Angeles Dodgers who rank 15th overall in Strikeout Rate. Scherzer’s back end also helps limit the amount of contact variance in his starts should the Dodgers aggression at the plate lead to an uptick in Hits as the Blue Jays defense ranks above league average in Defensive Efficiency.
On the other side of the field, Tyler Glasnow looks to pick up from where he left off as the Dodgers ace is currently averaging an ERA of 0.68 and a FIP of 2.24 since the start of the playoffs. While his current ERA is unsustainable, it’s worth noting Glasnow has excelled at keeping opposing runners off the bases in his three outings as he is also averaging a WHIP of 1.125.
Glasnow’s success on the mound can also be attributed to the support he receives from his back end as the Dodgers defense currently ranks top-12 in Defensive Efficiency and in Fielding Percentage. Even with Toronto’s offense leading the league in Contact Rate and in On Base Percentage, the Dodgers coverage helps narrow the gaps in the outfield which lowers the Blue Jays chances of generating a Hit.
