The two previous visits by LIV Golf to Mexico saw them enjoy the charms of the Mayakoba resort and its tricky El Camaleon course.
This week the rebel circuit has a new Mexican venue but it is one that many in the field know very well.
Club de Golf Chapultepec was the one-time host of the WGC Mexico Championship and all four editions of it were won by LIV golfers - Dustin Johnson in 2017 and 2018, Phil Mickelson in 2018, and Patrick Reed in 2020.
It’s a wonderful old-school test with a traditional design and tight tree-lined - and often doglegged - fairways.
Those doglegs can be attacked. The bold golfer will pick a blind line over the trees and if they hit the correct shot will pinch as much as 150 yards off those more conservative players who play to the corner.
There is another consideration this week: altitude.
Mexico City lies at 2,240 meters above sea level which means the air is thin and the ball flies much further than normal.
Some golfers are good at the math required in such circumstances. Others are not!

It is a par-71 that plays to 7,267 yards
But, at high altitude, it plays a lot shorter
It’s a traditional design built in 1928 and redesigned in 1971
It features bumpy Poa Annua grass on the greens
It is tightly tree-lined with many doglegs
It remains the case that the Spaniard is ultra-reliable when competing on LIV. He’s teed it up 18 times and he’s yet to finish outside the top 10. But he won’t be happy that he finished T14 last time out in the Masters when he never once got into contention. He’s played Chapultepec four times, twice finishing third including in 2020 when he thrashed a third round 61.

The Chilean has a similar problem to Rahm: he’s brilliant on LIV (two wins in 2024, another two in 2025) but he’s yet to finish top 10 in a major (and was only T29 in the Masters). He’s a debutant at Chapultepec but is used to altitude because he was born, and brought up in, Santiago which is 520m above sea level (and his first PGA Tour win was at 560m).

The big hitter’s Masters performance was entirely in keeping with current trends. Because, while he has failed to win on LIV since September 2023, he has been excellent in the major championships. His fifth at Augusta National last time out was a fourth top six finish in his last five major starts. He was a poor T56 at Chapultepec in 2019 but a very fine second in 2020.

The Englishman went four consecutive starts without a top 15 finish ahead of the Masters but he defied that limp form to finish T14 at Augusta National, and he spent the first 36 holes inside the top five.
He also has superb course form.
He is 4-for-4 at finishing top 20 at Chapultepec with a best of third in 2018 (and he has ended 10 of his 16 rounds at the course inside the top 10 on the leaderboard).
He has excellent form on other tight, tree-lined courses in thin air.
He was second in the 2014 Joburg Open and has three times finished third in the European Masters at Crans-sur-Siere in the Swiss Alps.
He’s the pick of the favorites. Take him each way at +1100 with Caesars Sportsbook.

The South African Dean Burmester will not be inconvenienced by the altitude because he is a six-time winner in such conditions on the South African Tour.
At first glance, his course form is a little ordinary but his only start there was back in 2018 when he was a far more inexperienced player.
He finished T30 but closed with a very fine 65 and he’s a much better performer these days.
He was also second at LIV Hong Kong in March - not at altitude but the course was similar to this week’s test.
Back him each way with bet365 at +2200.

Carlos Oritz has a strong record on home soil.
He was a winner in Mexico on the Korn Ferry Tour, recorded four top 10s in nine PGA Tour starts in the country, and has one top 10 there on LIV from two starts.
He hails from Guadalajara rather than Mexico but his home city is at altitude and he won a minor tour event in Mexico City last year.
His last two starts include victory in Macau on the Asian Tour then fourth last time out on LIV.
We’ll back him to rack up another top 10 in Mexico, priced +155 with bet365.
