With Logan Webb generating Whiffs at a high rate, expect the San Francisco Giants pitcher to hold the Pittsburgh Pirates scoreless in the first inning as he faces off against a lineup that struggles with making contact. Later in the night, we fade the New York Yankees high-powered offense as they face off against Nathan Eovaldi and a Texas Rangers defense who excels in coverage.

Even though Logan Webb’s current odds to win the NL Cy Young award make it seem like he is out of the running, the San Francisco Giants pitcher has still played at a very high level as he is currently averaging an ERA of 3.31 and a FIP of 2.64. His high Whiff Rate has played a major role in his success this season as Webb is also averaging over one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.
Heading into Tuesday, expect Webb to continue to terrorize opposing batters with his elite blend of power and accuracy as he faces off against a Pittsburgh Pirates offense who ranks below league average in Contact Rate and in Slugger Percentage. Even when backed by a defense who struggles to play at a high level, Webb has shown he can neutralize any offense with his individual production as his low FIP implies.
As for Mike Burrows, the Pirates pitcher will also have a great opportunity to get off to a hot start as he battles it out against a Giants offense who ranks in the bottom half of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage. Especially when Burrows excels at avoiding contact as he enters the contest averaging an ERA of 3.88 and less than five Hits Allowed per game.

Nathan Eovaldi also finds himself listed near the top of the oddsboard for the AL Cy Young award, yet still sizably behind Tarik Skubal for first. Do not let his current odds fool you, Eovaldi has been dominant on the mound this season as the Texas Rangers pitcher is currently averaging an ERA of 1.49, a WHIP of 0.893, a FIP of 2.43, and less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched.
Even with the reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge potentially making his return from injury, expect the New York Yankees offense to continue to struggle as the Rangers back end helps reduce the amount of contact variance in Eovaldi’s outings with their coverage. As of writing, the Rangers defense leads the league in Defensive Efficiency and in Fielding Percentage.
On the other side of the field, positive regression looms large over Will Warren as he faces off against a Rangers lineup who ranks below league average in Contact Rate, On Base Percentage, and in Slugger Percentage. Even when possessing a WHIP of 1.428, Warren still excels at avoiding contact as he is currently averaging less than one Hit per Inning Pitched and a FIP of 3.64.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Colorado Rockies - Jose Berrios vs. Anthony Molina - With Anthony Molina averaging a FIP of 6.22, as well as being supported by a defense who ranks dead last in Defensive Efficiency, expect the Toronto Blue Jays to get off to a hot start as their offense leads the league in Contact Rate and in On Base Percentage.
