With the Minnesota Twins struggling with stringing together their Hits, expect their offense to continue to underwhelm as they face off against Jacob Lopez who excels at avoiding contact. At the same time as their opening pitch, we focus on the matchup between the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals as both lineups are set to battle it out against a pair of productive arms on the mound.

After heading into the year listed as one of the contenders for the AL Central division title, the Minnesota Twins have severely underperformed this season as they are currently 14 games back from Detroit for first. Their low level of play on offense has played a major role in their struggles as the Twins rank below league average in Contact Rate, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage.
Against the Athletics, the Twins' struggles on offense will be on full display as they face off against Jacob Lopez who averages an ERA of 3.30 and a WHIP of 1.193. Even when receiving little support from his back end with their underwhelming coverage, Lopez possesses more than enough arm talent to hold them scoreless as he also averages less than one Hit Allowed and more than one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.
On the other side of the field, Joe Ryan draws a much tougher assignment as he faces off against an Athletics offense who surprisingly ranks in the top half of the board in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Fortunately for Ryan, his back end helps reduce the amount of contact variance in his starts as the Twins defense ranks above league average in Fielding Percentage.

Like the Twins, the Texas Rangers offense have been abysmal this season as their lineup ranks near dead last in Team Total Hits, On Base Percentage, and in Slugger Percentage. Their low level of play on offense has held them back from being able to compete for the division title as the Rangers are currently 7.5 games back from Houston for first in the AL West division standings with less than 30 games remaining.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, their struggles on offense are poised to persist against Seth Lugo as the Kansas City Royals pitcher is averaging an ERA of 3.77 and a WHIP of 1.241. While his FIP is alarmingly high, Lugo has shown he still is capable of avoiding contact at a consistent rate as he also averages less than one Hit per Inning Pitched.
As for Merrill Kelly, the Rangers pitcher is also in a position to thrive as he faces off against a Royals offense who struggles with getting into scoring position. Expect the Royals to continue to underwhelm in their efforts of getting on base as Kelly averages an ERA of 3.36 and a WHIP of 1.092. Especially when he is supported by the best defense in the league as the Rangers rank first overall in Defensive Efficiency.

Seattle Mariners vs. Philadelphia Phillies - Bryce Miller vs. Cristopher Sanchez - With Bryce Miller averaging an ERA of 5.73 and nearly two runners on base per inning, the Philadelphia Phillies offense will have the opportunity to get into scoring position in the first inning as their offense ranks top-10 in Contact Rate and in On Base Percentage.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies - Emmet Sheehan vs. Austin Gomber - Expect the Los Angeles Dodgers to open up the scoring early on in their divisional matchup against Colorado as they face off against Austin Gomber who is currently averaging an ERA of 6.75, a WHIP of 1.610, and a FIP of 6.15.
