Milwaukee Bucks (Away)

Head Coach: Mike Budenholzer {All-Time 318-226 | ATL, MIL}

Season Record: 45-7

Projected Starting Five: (G) Eric Bledsoe – (G) Wesley Matthews – (F) Khris Middleton – (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – (C) Brook Lopez

Top Performers

  • (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – 30.9 MPG | 30.0 PPG | 13.5 RPG | 5.8 APG
  • (F) Khris Middleton – 29.4 MPG | 20.4 PPG | 6.1 RPG | 4.2 APG
  • (G) Eric Bledsoe – 27.0 MPG | 15.4 PPG | 5.3 APG | 4.7 RPG

The Milwaukee Bucks continue to dominate the Eastern Conference and the NBA. New father Giannis Antetokounmpo remains unstoppable in the paint, while the Bucks shooters are a perfect complement to his play style. On the road against the Pacers, the Bucks are 21-4 away from home.

The Bucks are coming off of a victory over the Sacramento Kings. Paced by second-time All-Star Khris Middleton, the Bucks were able to put on a late run that ensured their victory. Despite a competitive first three quarters.

Milwaukee faces off with a stout defensive team in the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have been struggling as of late, losing their last six in a row. Despite the return of Victor Oladipo, they’ve yet to find the rhythm they so desire.

Indiana Pacers (Home)

Head Coach: Nate McMillan {All-Time 647-582 | SEA, POR, IND}

Season Record: 31-23

Projected Starting Five: (G) Malcolm Brogdon – (G) Jeremy Lamb – (F) TJ Warren – (F) Domantas Sabonis – (C) Myles Turner

Top Performers

  • (F) Domantas Sabonis – 34.6 MPG | 18.2 PPG | 12.6 RPG | 4.7 APG
  • (F) TJ Warren – 32.2 MPG | 18.2 PPG | 3.7 RPG | .376 3P%
  • (G) Malcolm Brogdon – 30.6 MPG | 16.9 PPG | 7.3 APG | .333 3P%

The Indiana Pacers have stalled. After a promising start to the season, they have dropped six straight games and reside in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Despite the return of Victor Oladipo, the Pacers have struggled to make a table climbing run.

Indiana is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Brooklyn Nets on their home court. Despite taking a late lead, Spencer Dinwiddie was able to hit from the elbow to give the Nets the lead, while Malcolm Brogdon couldn’t hit the game-winner on the following play.

Indiana will be hard-pressed to receive their first victory in eight games when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee has hardly been challenged all year and with the Pacers’ offensive struggles it doesn’t look too promising for them.

What’s at Stake?

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers are two of the NBA’s most historic franchises. Over 193 regular-season meetings, the Bucks lead the Pacers 103-90.

A win for the Milwaukee Bucks would solidify their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference and NBA table.

A win for the Indiana Pacers would bring them within 1.5 games of the Philadelphia 76ers who sit at fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Questions to Answer

Can the Milwaukee Bucks be able to finish?

Can the Indiana Pacers compete on the glass?

We are going to compare the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

MIL: It Takes A Team Effort

The Milwaukee Bucks don’t struggle in many aspects of the game. With a transcendent star and an incredible supporting cast, their success speaks volumes to their quality. While they are 9-1 in their last ten, the Pacers pose a unique challenge.

Two capable bigs and a rotation of defensively adept guards, the Indiana Pacers are one of the few teams that can chase the Bucks off the line and stop them at the rim. Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe were able to carry the Bucks with Antetokounmpo out, but the lack of production from their other pieces was worrying.

To beat the Pacers’ defense, the Bucks will need to do better than 9-26 from deep from its auxiliary pieces. They should be fine with Antetokounmpo back, but their ability to finish will determine this game.

IND: Control the Glass!

The Indiana Pacers frontcourt won’t be receiving a rest when they face off against the Milwaukee Bucks. While Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner are a formidable pair, the combined effort of the Bucks is nothing to scoff at.

Between Sabonis and Turner, the two collect 18.7 rebounds per game. Compared to the Bucks’ frontcourt of Antetokounmpo and Middleton, who collected 19.6 rebounds per game, the disparity doesn’t seem so great.

It is the role players that need to step on the glass for the Pacers though. Only 26th in the league in total rebounds per game, Indiana will expect more of Jeremy Lamb and TJ Warren on the glass. Especially against the rebounding ability of Giannis.

Milwaukee Bucks Roster Notes

(G) George Hill – 8 Feb 2020 – Day To Day (Hamstring) – Hill did not play in Saturday’s game (Feb. 8) against the Magic.

Indiana Pacers Roster Notes

(G) Victor Oladipo – 8 Feb 2020 – Day To Day (Knee) – Oladipo did not play in Saturday’s game (Feb. 8) against the Pelicans.

Head-to-Head: (G) Wes Matthews vs (G) Malcolm Brogdon

The matchup in the backcourt is the story of the evening. Wes Matthews hasn’t produced as much as expected, while Malcolm Brogdon struggled in his last matchup. Production from the guard position will be essential to both teams’ success.

(G) Wes Matthews (6-4, 220lb (193cm, 99kg) | Marquette | 10 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%

Wes Matthews has been playing the smallest role of his career since his rookie season. Playing only 24.5 minutes per game, the veteran shooting guard has been streaky to say the least for the Bucks. While he converts regularly from deep, he was a modest 3-9 from the field in an extended 32 minute run in his last match. The Bucks need more from him in order to beat the Pacers defense.

(G) Malcolm Brogdon (6-5, 229lb (196cm, 103kg) | Virginia | 3 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%
19-2027IND3930.616.84.77.3.441.333

Malcolm Brogdon has been playing the biggest role of his basketball career with the Indiana Pacers. On the cusp of an All-Star berth, Brogdon’s production has been essential for the Pacers. Unfortunately, he struggled in his last match, shooting only 3-11 from the field in 32 minutes of play. He was also unable to stop Dinwiddie’s game-winning shot. Brogdon has a lot to bounce back from.

Milwaukee Bucks at Indiana Pacers Predictions

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Will Win

The Milwaukee Bucks’ dominance on the inside is what will carry them through this game. The Pacers are efficient but haven’t proved themselves to have the interior game to counter the Milwaukee Bucks.

Why the Indiana Pacers Will Win

The Indiana Pacers thrive off the back of their defense and scoring efficiency. If they can establish themselves in the paint early, and outwork the Bucks inside, they should be able to make up for their lack of perimeter shooting.
