Milwaukee Bucks (Away)

Head Coach: Mike Budenholzer {All-Time 321-227 | ATL, MIL}

Season Record: 48-8

Projected Starting Five: (G) Eric Bledsoe – (G) Wes Matthews – (F) Khris Middleton – (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – (C) Brook Lopez

Top Performers

  • (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – 30.9 MPG | 30.0 PPG | 13.6 RPG | 5.8 APG
  • (F) Khris Middleton – 29.7 MPG | 20.7 PPG | 6.2 RPG | 4.2 APG
  • (G) Eric Bledsoe – 27.1 MPG | 15.7 PPG | 5.4 APG | 4.7 APG

The Milwaukee Bucks are, as usual, sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference. Yet to lose even ten games at this point in the year, the Bucks are one of the toughest teams in the association.

Milwaukee is coming off of a dismantling of the Philadelphia 76ers in their last match. With Ben Simmons leaving the game with less than five minutes elapsed, there was no match for Antetokounmpo on the perimeter.

The Bucks take on a Toronto Raptors team that they’ve more than handled so far this season. While Toronto hasn’t boasted a healthy roster against them all year, you can only play who is in front of you. Expect Milwaukee to dominate the paint as they usually do.

Toronto Raptors (Home)

Head Coach: Nick Nurse {All-Time 100-39 | 42-15}

Season Record: 42-15

Projected Starting Five: (G) Kyle Lowry – (G) Fred Vanvleet – (F) OG Anunoby – (F) Pascal Siakam – (C) Serge Ibaka

Top Performers

  • (F) Pascal Siakam – 35.0 MPG | 23.8 PPG | 7.6 RPG | 3.4 APG
  • (G) Kyle Lowry – 36.4 MPG | 19.5 PPG | 7.7 APG | 4.8 RPG
  • (G) Fred Vanvleet – 36.0 MPG | 17.9 PPG | 6.8 APG | 1.9 SPG

The Toronto Raptors are on a brilliant run of form. They have 16 wins out of their last 17 games and sit comfortably in second place in the Eastern Conference. Still quite a few games back from the Bucks in the table, a win would be crucial for the Raptors’ chances at nabbing first in the East.

Toronto is coming off of an absolute drubbing of the Indiana Pacers. Setting a record for margin of victory in a regular-season game, the Raptors defeated the Pacers by 46 points. They weren’t just excellent from the field, their suffocating defense was on full display.

They now face a Milwaukee Bucks team that they’ve struggled against all season. Without a key piece in Marc Gasol, the Raptors’ ability to protect the paint will be the main question. If they can keep up their scoring rate, they can certainly stay in the game.

What’s at Stake?

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors have seen each other regularly since 1995. Over 90 regular season matches, the Bucks lead the Raptors 52-38.

A win for the Milwaukee Bucks would give them a 7.5 game lead over the second-place Toronto Raptors.

A win for the Toronto Raptors would bring them within 5.5 games of the first-place Milwaukee Bucks.

Questions to Answer

Can the Milwaukee Bucks bare the Raptors’ lockdown defense?

Will the Toronto Raptors be able to protect the paint?

We are going to compare the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

MIL: Don’t Beat Yourselves

The Toronto Raptors are on a fantastic run of form. This is a different team than who the Bucks faced earlier in the season, confident in their depth and execution. While the Raptors will be missing key pieces, they will put up a fight equal to a fully healthy effort.

Over the course of the Raptors’ fantastic run, they have been able to force opponents to crumble under their defensive pressure. Averaging 17.4 turnovers forced per game over their last 17 matches, the Raptors are sure to give the Bucks’ ball handlers trouble.

It will be key for Milwaukee to provide Giannis plenty of outlets in the event of traps or swarming coverage. Eric Bledsoe is more of an offense-defense player, but his ability to make plays will be under the microscope in this matchup.

TOR: Protect the Rim!

The Toronto Raptors will be looking to take a page from the Milwaukee Bucks’ book to succeed in this match. With the strength and size of the Bucks at every position, and without Marc Gasol available, the Raptors will have difficulty stopping the Bucks’ relentless attack.

In their last match against the Bucks, the Toronto Raptors didn’t look themselves. Credit the ability of Milwaukee, the Raptors allowed their opponents to shoot 46% from the field and convert on 13 three-pointers.

The drive-and-kick game is essential for the Milwaukee Bucks. The Raptors will have to pick their poison against the Eastern Conference leaders and hope that the combination of OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, and Serge Ibaka is enough to slow down the Greek Freak.

Milwaukee Bucks Roster Notes

(F) Kyle Korver – 22 Feb 2020 – Day To Day (Back) – Korver did not play in Saturday’s (Feb 22) game against the 76ers.

Toronto Raptors Roster Notes

(C) Marc Gasol – 22 Feb 2020 – Out (Hamstring) – Gasol is out for Sunday’s (Feb. 23) game against Indiana.

(G) Patrick McCaw – 22 Feb 2020 – Day To Day (Illness) – McCaw is doubtful for Sunday’s (Feb. 23) game against New Orleans.

(G) Norman Powell – 22 Feb 2020 – Out (Finger) – Powell is out for Sunday’s (Feb. 23) game against the Pacers.

(C) Dewan Hernandez – 2 Jan 2020 – Out (Ankle) – Hernandez has been out since Dec. 16 against Cleveland with a sprained ankle.

Head-to-Head: (F) Khris Middleton vs (G) Kyle Lowry

Everyone expects the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Pascal Siakam to do their thing. The outcome of this game will rely on the play of each respective team’s second All-Stars. Kyle Lowry and Khris Middleton can have a huge impact.

(F) Khris Middleton (6-7, 222lb (201cm, 100kg) | Texas A&M | 7 Years)

Khris Middleton is having an absolutely fantastic season. Likely to be indoctrinated in the 50-40-90 club, Middleton is the steadying force to Antetokounmpo’s berserker-like playstyle. Middleton’s production as a secondary scorer as well as a playmaker will be crucial to the Bucks’ success.

(G) Kyle Lowry (6-0, 196lb (183cm, 88kg) | Villanova | 13 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%
19-2033TOR4436.419.54.87.7.420.357

Kyle Lowry has taken a step back at this point in his career, opting to be more facilitator than scorer. However, his ability to put the ball in the basket is just as valuable as his fantastic defense. While his production is similar in wins and losses, his 43.4% scoring rate in wins versus 38.9% in losses is telling.

Milwaukee Bucks at Toronto Raptors Predictions

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Will Win

The Bucks have shown that their only true enemy is themselves. If they can take care of the ball and not make too many mistakes, nobody has shown that they can defeat their rim attack. Milwaukee’s shooters will be put to the test.

Why the Toronto Raptors Will Win

The Toronto Raptors will have to pick their poison against the Milwaukee Bucks. Whether or not they can stop one of the Bucks’ three-point or paint attack is the question. Besides that, the Raptors will give themselves a good chance if they can protect the paint. Let’s see if their run of play holds.
