Can Martin Truex Jr. Keep His Charlotte Streak Going? Predictions and Odds for the Coca-Cola 600
Can Martin Truex Jr. Keep His Charlotte Streak Going?
After scoring his second win of the season, looks like Martin Truex Jr. has hit the sweet spot.
The 2017 champion had struggled following his move to Joe Gibbs Racing.
But taking the checkered flag at Dover indicates that the troubles have seemingly been left behind.
As the Cup Series visits Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600, Truex could carry the momentum over.
Truex won the longest race of the schedule three years ago in dominant fashion.
With 392 laps led out of 400, Truex Jr. also set a Coca-Cola 600 record.
This performance is one of the reasons why Charlotte has been one of Truex’s best tracks in recent years.
Let’s take a closer look at his run of good results.

Truex’s Impressive Form at Charlotte
Charlotte wasn’t that kind to Truex in the early days of his career.
In fact, it was quite the opposite.
His first career top 10 did come at Charlotte in 2005, which was also his first start at the track.
However, Truex only managed to score two top 10 finishes over his next 19 starts at the 1.5 mile oval.
Then the breakout 2015 season came in, which marked his new status as a title contender.
Martin Truex Jr. scored his first career top 5 finish at Charlotte during that year’s Coca-Cola 600.
Something clicked from that point onwards, and a string of great results soon followed.
The sole exception was a 13th place finish during the 2016 playoffs.
The Joe Gibbs driver has five top 3 finishes over the last six races at Charlotte.
Truex won the 2016 Coca-Cola 600 with one of the most dominant performances in NASCAR history.
Starting from the pole, he went on to lead 392 laps on the way to taking the checkered flag.
Prior to that, he had led 140 laps at Charlotte, 131 of those during the 2015 Coca-Cola 600.
Truex scored a second victory at the track during the 2017 playoffs, securing his spot in the round of eight.
He nearly scored a win during last year’s postseason as the race moved to the infield road course.
His most recent result at the oval was a runner-up finish during last year’s Coca-Cola 600.
Taking a Look at Martin Truex Jr’s 2019 Season
For Martin Truex Jr., the changes began in 2018.
The then-reigning Cup Series champion learned that his team would be closing the doors for 2019.
Championship winning operation Furniture Row, which rose to the top with Truex, had lost its sponsorship deal.
The Colorado-based team made the announcement in September.
Two months later, Truex and his crew signed with Joe Gibbs Racing to replace Daniel Suarez in the #19.
Truex’s #78 car was essentially a fifth car for Gibbs, since Furniture Row worked as a satellite team.
The biggest difference would be moving to a different workshop, which would require some adjustments.
As it turned out, the move was a much bigger thing than initially predicted.
While Truex virtually remained under the same team, he struggled early on with Joe Gibbs.
Following a retirement at the Daytona 500, Truex had two runner-up finishes and three eighth place results.
His form has since improved, although inconsistency became a new problem.
The 2017 champion has two wins in his last six starts.
On the other hand, his other results were 12th, 17th,19th and 20th.
How Did Martin Truex Jr. Do at the All-Star Race
Truex’s poor run of results at the All-Star race continues.
The Joe Gibbs driver closed out the top 10 as he once again failed to win at the event.
This shouldn’t play a part in his Coca-Cola 600 prospects.
Truex has been one of the strongest performers at Charlotte in both points-paying races year after year.
His dominant win in 2016 came after a less than brilliant 14th place at All-Star.
