Orioles: Andrew Cashner

2019 marks Andrew Cashner’s second season in Baltimore.

The pitcher’s 2018 season for the Orioles was a rocky one as the Texas-native posted a plus-5 ERA for the second time in his last three seasons.

Despite his size, the six-foot, six-inch right hander only struck out 99 batters in 153 innings.

  • In 2018, Cashner posted a 5.29 ERA and 1.58 WHIP.
  • Last season, right-handed hitters had a .301 batting average against Cashner.
  • Cashner struck out just 5.82 batters per nine innings pitched.

Yankees: Masahiro Tanaka

Masahiro Tanaka fills in for the previously announced Opening Day starter, Luis Severino, who is sidelined with rotator cuff inflammation.

“(Masahiro) has clearly shown through his life really that he’s really good in the big spot,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

The assignment against the Orioles with mark Tanaka’s 4th opening day start for the Yankees.

New York has lost all three of those previous Tanaka opening day starts.
